Overview
Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakatra (UMS) welcomes international applicants to study at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. UMS is opened to students from all cultural backgrounds and religions. To be able to get admission, candidates have to show good academic competence which is proven by high academic merit. International applicants apply directly to UMS by submitting a set of application documents and the university will conduct application documents assessment based on which the eligibility for admission is decided.

Two copies of completed application packages (available at International Office) and all supporting documents via registered mail or email to :

Closing Date of Application Submission
UMS usually starts lecturing in September, so the international candidates have to submit their application before the end of June every year.
Language Entry Requirements
International applicants who take regular programs (taught in Indonesian language) have to attend mandatory Indonesian language courses or show that they have already got certificate of Indonesian language proficiency test for non-native speakers (Tes Bahasa Indonesia Sebagai Bahasa Asing or TIBA).
Academic Entry Requirements
Basically, all candidates have equal chance to study at UMS as they meet the qualifications made by the university. The main qualifications are:
Undergraduate
Graduate from nationally accredited High School or passing international education qualifications equivalent to nationally accredited High Scholl
Postgraduate
- Bachelor (or equivalent) program graduates of accredited university (or equivalent higher education)
- Bachelor’s GPA > 2.50 (or equivalent qualification)
Doctoral
- The Candidates have to graduate Bachelor and Master degrees (or equivalents)
- Bachelors GPA > 3.00, and Master’s GPA > 3.25 (or equivalent qualifications)
- Demonstrate a good record and capability in conducting academic research.

- A printed copy of completed and signed application from

- Six recent passport sized photograph (4cm X 6cm) with red background
- A latter of Financial Guarantee to cover your study and living expenses or a sponsorship latter
- Legal health certificate from an accredited hospital stating that you are physically and mentally capable to conduct the studies
Postgraduate
- An authorised copy of Bachelor (or equivalent) Certificate of accredited university (or equvalent higher education)
- An authorised copy of Bachelor academic transcript
- A printed copy of completed and signed application form
- A copy of TIBA certificate (if available)

Doctoral

- A copy of TOEFL or IELTS certificate
- A copy of TIBA certificate (if available)
- Curiculum Vitae
- Six sheets of recent passport sized photograph (4cm X 6cm) with red background
- A latter of Financial Guarantee to cover your study and living expenses or a sponsorship latter
- Legal health certificate from an accredited hospital stating that you are physically and mentally capable to conduct the studies
- A recommendation latter from the institution where the applicant work (if applicant is already working)
- Two reference letters (From two referees) for proficiency in academic achievement
- Research draft for Doctoral dissertation, put bes priority on new inventions, authentic and appropriate for dissertation (1.5 speaced, typed on an 80gram A4 paper, max 20 pages)
- A copy of published papers or articles (authored by the applicant in an accredited or international journal)
