Starting from 02 January to 04 August 2019, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta officially launched its New Student Admission (Penerimaan Mahasiswa Baru/PMB) for 2019/2020 academic year. The launching of PMB will be commenced directly by the Rector of UMS, Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si. at the registration room for One Day Service (ODS) UMS (2/1/2019).
Each Faculty Dean also attended the launching. Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si mentioned that One Day Service (ODS) system owned by UMS garnered more trust from people who chose UMS as their trusted Higher Education Institution.
"ODS is one of the systems that we are proud of and the trust from people keeps increasing because to be a student at UMS, they should pass the selection that no one could interfere with," he said during the launching of PMB UMS of 2019.
Furthermore, the Rector of UMS explained that each prospective student at UMS is given the chance to register three times and on each registration, they have three opportunities of computer-based test.
"The mechanism for this is that each registrant is given opportunity three times, and on each registration, they can have three times of test. The test is done through computer system,” he explained.
To pass the test, prospective students must be able to achieve the minimum passing grade or score for each chosen study program. The passing grades will automatically increase if the number of applicants has increased. Thus, it is recommended for prospective new students to register at the beginning of registration.
Still related to ODS system, UMS becomes the first university to employ this system. Since 2004, One Day Service was already carried out at UMS and now other universities had begun to follow its feat.
“Since 2004, UMS has used this ODS system, UMS was the first university to use it and now other universities have done so as well, especially Muhammadiyah universities," he continued.
As a symbol of the opening of PMB, the Rector of UMS handed over the first test number 001 to the first registrar on behalf of Naning Oktabhita Ananda Harsono Putri. She is a student from MAN Purwosari Kediri. The applicant from Kediri chose General Medicine as its first choice and Dentistry as its second one.
In addition, Dr. Triyono as the Chair committee of PMB UMS 2019/2020 academic year mentioned that UMS opened quota of 8,000 new students. Furthermore, UMS provided scholarships as much as 2.5% of the total student population. The scholarship can be achieved through several media, such as Beasiswa Ahmad Dahlan, Beasiswa Unggulan Muhammadiyah, and many others.
