By the end of 2018, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta organized graduation ceremony period II of 2018/2019 academic year. Graduation ceremony is one point to end the academic activity at campus, as well as the starting point for alumni to begin contributing for the country and nation.
There were 1379 graduates attended the ceremony, and there were 238 graduates with cumlaude predicate. From these numbers, the most graduates with cumlade were from Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) with 84 graduates.
The Vice Rector I, Dr. Muhammad Da'i, M.Si, Apt mentioned that the graduation ceremony was an awarding ceremony of academic title for UMS students.
“This graduation ceremony is held to award academic titles for graduates of Diploma 3 program, Bachelor’s Degree, and Graduate Program,” he mentioned.
The graduation ceremony was held at GOR Kampus 2 UMS on Saturday (15/12/2018). This graduation ceremony was slightly different from the previous ones. Previously, if there were more than 1000 graduates, UMS will hold the graduation ceremony on two days. However, the ceremony was only one day.
Furthermore, on this graduation ceremony, the Rector UMS, Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si mentioned about the construction plan of edutorium which will be built on Edupark UMS.
“InsyaAllah we already prepare one building, which is quite representative. We will start the construction of the building in January 2019, which we will prepare to hold Muktamar Muhammadiyah in 2020,” he explained.
The Rector of UMS also mentioned that the building has quite large capacity. Furthermore, the building will have modern concept and design.
“The building will be quite large, and could hold about 8000 people. So, we can also use this building for graduation ceremony. It will have modern design, no longer use stairs, and instead will use lift and escalator, three-story building,” he said.
Furthermore, we will have gymnasium inside the building. And the most prideful of this project and this was already approved by the Muhammadiyah Central Executive, they will also build Museum of Islamic Civilization of South East Asia. Hence, after the muktamar, people from around the world could still visit the Edutorium.
