Indonesian Academic Writing is a foundational course designed for second-semester students to develop essential academic writing skills in Bahasa Indonesia within the context of higher education. The course introduces students to the principles of academic discourse, structured argumentation, paragraph development, coherence and cohesion, academic style, and proper citation practices. Students are guided to construct clear, logical, and well-organized academic texts, including summaries, analytical responses, essays, and simple research-based papers.

Emphasis is placed on critical reading, analytical thinking, structured reasoning, and adherence to academic conventions. Through guided practice, peer review, and writing workshops, students progressively develop the ability to express ideas systematically, support arguments with credible sources, and maintain clarity and precision in academic communication.

This course integrates AIK (Al-Islam dan Kemuhammadiyahan) values by fostering academic integrity, ethical responsibility, and intellectual honesty in writing practices. Students are encouraged to uphold principles such as honesty (amanah) in avoiding plagiarism, fairness (‘adl) in presenting arguments objectively, responsibility (mas’uliyyah) in using credible sources, and respectful communication (akhlaq al-karimah) in academic discourse. In line with Muhammadiyah’s vision of developing a progressive and enlightened society (masyarakat berkemajuan), the course promotes critical thinking, constructive dialogue, and scholarly contribution grounded in moral and social responsibility.

By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate the ability to produce structured, coherent, and ethically grounded academic writing in Indonesian that reflects both intellectual rigor and moral
