In this course, the students are expected to understand a range of formal oral texts in academic contexts by practising several strategies such as listening for gist, specific information, and detailed information. The texts are in the form of both short and long monologues such as speeches and lectures, radio broadcasts, television news broadcasts, weather forecasts and so on. The oral texts have a level of difficulty ranging from moderate to difficult. It aims to prepare the students who will take the course called Standardized Tests of Listening in the next semester.
