This course introduces students to the principles, approaches, and applications of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), focusing on language use in professional and academic contexts. Students will analyze the linguistic needs of specific target groups, explore the role of needs analysis in ESP curriculum design, and develop instructional materials tailored to learners' professional or academic requirements. The course covers key ESP areas such as English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Occupational Purposes (EOP), and English for Vocational Purposes (EVP). Through practical activities, students will engage in needs assessment, syllabus design, and material development, equipping them with the skills to design ESP courses for various disciplines. This course also integrates Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) values by fostering ethical and professional responsibility in language teaching, promoting inclusivity in ESP instruction, and emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning in diverse professional fields. By the end of the course, students will be able to critically evaluate ESP materials, design effective language instruction for specific purposes, and apply their knowledge to real-world teaching or training settings.
