As part of efforts to strengthen partnerships between universities, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) conducted a cooperation visit to Dong-Eui University and Kongju University in South Korea from June 22-27, 2024. The visit was led by representatives from the UMS Office of Collaboration and International Affairs (BKUI).
Wijianto, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., Head of BKUI UMS International Class Development, stated that the visit aimed to strengthen cooperation in implementing the UMS student mobility program, with a particular focus on the double degree program.
“At Dong-Eui University, we extended our existing cooperation, while with Kongju University, we explored the possibility of establishing new collaborations, particularly for a double degree program,” Wijianto said during an interview on Tuesday (9/7/2024).
Wijianto mentioned that students from the Management, Mechanical Engineering, Communication, Informatics, and Civil Engineering programs typically participate in double degree programs. There are plans to expand this opportunity to students from the Electrical Engineering and Chemical Engineering programs as well.

He shared that both Dong-Eui University and Kongju University were receptive to the plan, as they valued the trust placed in them by UMS as a student mobility destination. “In the future, there will even be a return visit from them to UMS,” he explained.
Wijianto expressed his hope for the smooth execution of the mobility program, emphasizing its importance in providing students with international exposure. He noted that students who graduate through this program will gain added value and possess superior competencies.
In fact, UMS double degree students have successfully secured jobs in Korea. “There are two or three who are working in Korea. The pride of working there comes from the high income,” he concluded.
