Competition Concept

Pencak Silat features both matches and demonstrations of traditional martial arts, focusing on technique, speed, and agility. Participants compete in various categories, including tanding (fighting) in this category, two fighters face off in a ring, adhering to strict rules to ensure safety and sportsmanship. Meanwhile, in seni (art and demonstration), participants perform a series of movements judged on their beauty, harmony, and technical accuracy.

General Rules

Match Rules
  • Selected members of Pencak Silat represent their universities in the competition.
  • Each fighter must bring their own match equipment and body protector, following IPSI standards for 2023. 
  • Athletes who withdraw or fail to attend will be automatically disqualified.
  • Participants must also be registered with Social Security, which is provided by their respective contingents.
  • By registering for the championship, all participants agree to adhere to the rules set by the committee. 
  • All participants and officials are required to wear uniforms that meet IPSI standards.
Match System
  • The competition uses the Achievement or Knockout system. 
  • Each match consists of three rounds, each lasting 2 minutes. 
  • Scoring is done using a digital scoring system
  • The system does not include video replay.
  • Each fighter’s coach is given 2 cards to file a protest in case of an incorrect decision. 
  • Coaches must wear standard IPSI clothing and an orange belt.
  • The overall winner is determined based on the total number of Gold Medals won. If there is a tie in Gold Medals, the number of Silver Medals is considered next. If there is still a tie, the number of Bronze Medals is used. If there is still no clear winner, the championship is awarded to the contingent with the highest number of participants.
  • Each competition class requires at least 3 participants for medal counting.
Participant Regulation
  • Participants allowed to compete are those who have been authorized at the technical meeting.
  • Participants must adhere to the established rules.
Refereeing
Referees are appointed by the event committee
Protest
If a contingent is dissatisfied with the match result, they can file a protest within 10 minutes of the winner’s decision. To do so, they must deposit IDR 2,000,000 with the match chairman. After the deposit is received, the manager may complete the protest form. The decision following the appeal is final, and the deposited money is non-refundable.
