Procedure for Research Proposal Submission

Research Criteria

The criteria for Master Thesis Research are as follows:

  1. The research proposal is part of the overarching research supervised by the master program advisor, which constitutes the thesis theme for the student.
  2. The referred master's degree student in point 1 is a current enrollee at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. 
  3. The research period spans one year, with a maximum budget allocation of Rp20.000.000 per proposal, intended to support the thesis research of the guided master's degree student.

Output

The mandatory output of the program is one article published in:

  1. Reputable international journal (indexed in Scopus with SJR>0.1) or
  2. Accredited national scientific journal ranking 1-2 (Indexed in Sinta 1 or 2) or
  3. Proceedings of reputable international seminars (indexed in Scopus with SJR>0.1)
Note: The researcher is required to include a thank you note to the Research and Innovation Office of UMS by including the Assignment Letter number on every publication conducted.

Technology Readiness Level

Every research proposal submitted must include the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) as follows:

  1. Basic research: TRL 1, 2, or 3.
  2. Applied research: TRL 4, 5, or 6.
  3. Development research: TRL 7, 8, or 9.

Special Requirements

The requirements for proposers are as follows:

  1. Research team leader is a permanent lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, holds a Doctorate degree, and is currently supervising at least one full-time master's student; and
  2. The proposer's team consists of the second supervisor (if any) and one of their master's students.

Criteria and General Requirements

  1. Research team leader must be a permanent lecturer at UMS Postgraduate Program (as proven by a Teaching License or a certificate from the Director of Postgraduate Program), have an NIDN, hold a PhD degree, and have supervised at least 1 master's or doctoral student.
  2. The team members consist of a maximum of 1 permanent lecturer at UMS Postgraduate Program (as proven by a Teaching License or a certificate from the Director of Postgraduate Program), have an NIDN, and hold a PhD degree.
  3. This research scheme is oriented towards strengthening and developing collaboration of internal lecturers' resources through joint research with master's or doctoral students to boost publication outcomes based on theses/dissertations. Therefore, proposals should not involve lecturers from other universities.
  4. Preference will be given to lecturers in the respective field to support curriculum development and the teaching-learning process in related study programs.
  5. Each lecturer is eligible to propose one project in the same scheme and year, either as a team leader or a team member. However, lecturers with two or more published articles in reputable international journals with an SJR > 0.5 (also classified as high impact factors by Web of Sciences) may propose up to two projects per year.
  6. Research team members from master's or doctoral students must be active students with a student registration number (NIM) and certified with a letter from the Director of the Postgraduate Program. The minimum number is 1 master's student or 1 doctoral student.
  7. The research proposal should include a research or technology roadmap, not a compilation of postgraduate student research topics that are unrelated to one another.
  8. Research team leader must not have any outstanding research reports from previous periods.
  9. The maximum proposed funding amount is Rp20.000.000 per thesis proposal.
  10. After the research is completed, the researcher must present the research results in a research dissemination forum such as an international seminar outside the country or publish it in a reputable international scientific journal.

Procedure for Research Proposal Submission

Research Proposal for Postgraduate Programs is submitted by completing the proposer's identity and uploading the proposal on the following page https://mybima.ums.ac.id/

Steps to be followed are as follows:

  1. Log in to MyBima using your UniI ID username and password.
  2. Select "Riset"  (Research) and click on "Riset Batch Aktif" (Active Research Batch), then click "Ajukan Usulan baru" (Submit a New Proposal).
  3. Choose the scheme you want to submit and click "Riset Pascasarjana" (Postgraduate Research).
  4. The screen will display the "Persyaratan Usulan Riset Pascasarjana" (Requirements for Postgraduate Research Proposals).
  5. Make sure all the listed requirements can be fulfilled and check the boxes provided.
  6. Fill in all the fields and selections in the available form.
  7. Ask team members to approve their participation by logging into MyBima with their UniI ID.
  8. Download the approval sheet from the MyBima page.
  9. Complete the approval sheet from LRI and combine it with the complete proposal, then upload it.
  10. Click "Ajukan Proposal" (Submit Proposal) and attach the soft file of the proposal (in document (doc) or PDF format) to the proposal document icon. This will register the Postgraduate Research Grant proposal as a proposer in the current batch/period.
  11. If the proposal passes the desk evaluation, the proposer will be invited to present and discuss the Postgraduate Research Proposal, the time of which will be scheduled by LRI UMS.
