Standardised Test of Structure is a skills-oriented course designed to develop students’ mastery of English grammatical structures as assessed in major English standardized tests. The course familiarizes students with the Structure and Written Expression sections commonly found in tests such as TOEFL ITP, institutional proficiency tests, and other standardized English assessments.
Throughout the course, students examine core grammatical domains frequently tested, including parts of speech, phrase and clause structures, verb tenses and aspects, subject–verb agreement, parallelism, modifiers, passive constructions, reported speech, conditional and subjunctive forms, and inverted sentences. Emphasis is placed on understanding how grammatical rules are operationalized in test items rather than on isolated rule memorization.
The course also focuses on test-taking strategies, such as identifying error patterns, recognizing distractors, managing time pressure, and applying analytical reasoning to sentence completion and error identification tasks. Students are guided to analyze typical test formats and develop accuracy and efficiency in responding to multiple-choice structure questions.
By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate improved grammatical accuracy, heightened awareness of standardized test conventions, and strategic competence in handling structure-based test items, supporting their academic readiness and English proficiency certification goals.
