This course introduces students to the foundations of journalism by examining its history, principles, and practices across traditional and digital media. Students will learn the essential functions of journalism in informing the public, shaping democratic discourse, and fostering social change. The course emphasizes basic journalistic skills, including news gathering, interviewing, fact-checking, and writing in different journalistic forms such as news reports, features, and editorials. Ethical considerations, media law, and professional standards are discussed to cultivate responsible journalistic practices. By exploring both local and global perspectives, students will develop critical awareness of journalism’s role in society. The course is closely aligned with Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) values, as it encourages integrity, honesty, and accountability in every aspect of journalistic work. Students are guided to embody Islamic and Muhammadiyah principles of justice, truth, and social responsibility while practicing journalism for the betterment of humanity.
