Deskripsi
This course develops an understanding of second language acquisition in relation to second and foreign language learning. After completing this course, students will be able to understand the theories of language acquisition and the learning of English as a foreign language or international language (EIL). Students will also learn about the theories of teaching and learning, the curriculum, the learning materials, and the evaluation systems used to assess EIL learning. Regarding EIL as a global language, this course also presents a discussion of the relationship between language, culture, and social identity, as well as attitudes toward variations of English as EIL.
The Qur'an views language acquisition as a gift from Allah SWT, which begins with teaching the names of objects to Prophet Adam (QS. Al-Baqarah: 31) and the ability to speak (al-bayan) as human nature (QS. Ar-Rahman: 3-4). Language is acquired through the process of listening, imitating, and the environment (interaction), and is studied to understand revelation.
