To support the digitalization of education, Hardika Dwi Hermawan, S.Pd., M.Sc., ITE. a lecturer at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) and Head of Digital Services and Management at the UMS Library, recently delivered a presentation during a workshop titled “Implementing School Digitalization” at SD Kanisius Kotabaru, Yogyakarta, on Thursday (31/10/2024).
Hardika spoke on the importance of utilizing information and communication technology (ICT) in the learning process, addressing kindergarten and elementary school teachers.
The UMS lecturer explained that the workshop was part of an effort to provide guidance and training to educators, so they can use ICT-based learning media more effectively.
“This activity was divided into two sessions. I started with a presentation on how to utilize technological developments and ICT media in learning, followed by a hands-on session,” said Hardika on Saturday (2/11/2024).

One challenge in implementing technology in education is the use of mobile devices among students. Hardika emphasized the need for agreements among students, teachers, and parents to ensure that phones are used wisely within a learning context and not merely for gaming.
“Teachers and parents must be actively involved in building a shared commitment with students to make use of technology. As educators, we need to be more explorative in using learning media that match the students’ characteristics,” he added.
Through this workshop, Hardika hopes that teachers will not merely see technology as a substitute for conventional methods.
“We want students to actively use ICT in learning, not just listen to lectures. For example, students can create their own presentations or posters using available apps, so they’re also engaged in the learning process,” he said.
The practical session was then continued by Khoirudin Nur Wahid, S.Pd., an IT Support Staff member at the UMS Library, who demonstrated how to use ICT media through applications like Canva and augmented reality, as well as the use of artificial intelligence.
With a strong commitment to improving the quality of education, Hardika and his team hope that the workshop will encourage educators to be more innovative and productive in integrating technology into the classroom.
