The Community Service Team of the Association/AUM/Assisted Villages (P2AD) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) successfully conducted a service titled “Assistance and Establishment of UMS Literacy Corner Towards the Community Learning Activity Center (PKBM) at Cakra Cipaku Village: Digital Literacy and Combatting Hoaxes and Online Gambling.”
After this service, Hardika Dwi Hermawan, S.Pd., M.Sc.ITE., Head of the Community Service Team, announced that the UMS P2AD Team handed over the Gerobak Literasi (Literacy Cart) to the community for immediate use. The Gerobak Literasi contains book posters created by the P2AD UMS Team on topics related to hoax prevention and online gambling, as well as other materials. Hardika mentioned that some students were directed to attend training sessions while the rest participated in reading activities with their peers.

The activity was followed by the "Baca Bareng Teman" (Reading with Friends) initiative, a collaboration with the literacy community in Purbalingga. This activity involves reading sessions with friends conducted in villages or at the Cakra Community Learning Center (PKBM).
As noted by Hardika, the community was enthusiastic about the activity, which took place on Sunday (11/2/2024). This enthusiasm was demonstrated by the formation of reading groups.
“Yesterday, around 100 students were divided into groups to read with friends. We collaborated with UMS and a reading community in Purbalingga. We formed groups to read together and share stories, focusing mainly on addressing hoaxes and online gambling,” stated Hardika on Thursday (15/2/2024).
This activity involves both tutors and students participating in training and reading with friends. Hopefully, this will serve as a catalyst for them to maintain a sustained enthusiasm for learning.
“Even at the end of the activity, there were inquiries about when the next training would take place. We will evaluate the results first to make improvements for the next training,” he continued.

After monitoring and evaluating the event's implementation, Hardika encouraged literacy friends in Purbalingga to conduct this event every two months at PKBM Cakra. The success of this event surpassed expectations, as evidenced by the opportunity to present at an international conference in Malaysia.
“The level of cooperation and support from PKBM Cakra has been exceptional, making it easier for us to carry out activities. In addition, the results of the impact surveys have been very satisfying,” added the PTI UMS lecturer.
Hardika hopes that this service can cultivate a literate community and establish a “Hoax and Online Gambling Task Force” to combat the spread of hoaxes and online gambling. His service aims to empower young people and the community to actively participate in reporting cases of hoaxes and online gambling.
“So, it’s not just about empowering the community, but also about establishing a system or information network that collects reports on hoaxes and online gambling. Furthermore, these reports originate from grassroots or lower levels of society. This way, we hope to see action not only from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology at the top level, but also from grassroots movements,” concluded Hardika.
