Another proud achievement has been recorded by students of the Communication Sciences Program, Faculty of Communication and Informatics (FKI), Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS). A student team from the Enlightening Campus successfully secured second place at the national level in the 2025 Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (PTMA) Student Documentary Competition.
The prestigious competition was organized by TVMu in collaboration with AVILKOM (Association of Audio-Visual Communication Studies Students), Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta. The announcement of the victory was officially shared through the Instagram account @avilkom.id in early January.
The team that brought honor to UMS consisted of three creative students: Wahyu Adi Cahyono, Muhammad Angga Pratama, and Alya Luthfiyyah Ramadhani. In the competition, they presented a cinematic work titled Jejak Sang Pencerah di Surakarta.
The documentary film was not merely an assignment or an ordinary visual work. Wahyu explained that their project explores the dynamics of Muhammadiyah’s development in the city of Surakarta. Through the camera lens, they highlight Surakarta as one of the central historical hubs of the Muhammadiyah movement, emphasizing the values of struggle that remain relevant for today’s generation.
As the team leader, Wahyu stated that this achievement has served as a strong boost of motivation for them to continue creating. According to him, the success was inseparable from a long and consistent learning process.
“This achievement certainly motivates us to keep learning and to become even better in our future creative works,” Wahyu said while commenting on his team’s success.
In addition to strong visual quality and solid research, Wahyu added that the key to their victory was harmonious teamwork. He noted that the team members already shared a strong bond, allowing the production process to run smoothly.
“We already understand each other’s traits and characters, so the division of tasks or job desks can be carried out properly and optimally,” he said, explaining the secret behind the team’s strong cohesion.
This success was also supported by the guiding hand of Drs. Iswahyudi Tejo Yuwono, M.Sn., As a supervising lecturer with extensive experience in the fields of film and television, Iswahyudi provided intensive guidance starting from the pre-production stage through to the final refinement of the documentary work.
The culmination of the competition series was marked by the award presentation, which took place on Monday, 26 January 2026. The ceremonial event was held solemnly at the Muhammadiyah Da’wah Center Building, Menteng, Central Jakarta, which also functions as the headquarters and broadcasting station of TVMu.
This national-level achievement further underscores the quality of learning in the Communication Sciences Program, Faculty of Communication and Informatics, UMS. The campus not only provides theoretical instruction in the classroom, but also encourages students to produce creative works that are both educational and competitive on the national stage.
