Two students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), Ginting Baharudin and Maaliki Istiglal Amuskan, are representing Indonesia at the 8th Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2024, held at the Bukhara Sports Complex in Uzbekistan from October 7 to 16, 2024.

Ginting is set to compete in the men's Class D category, which includes participants weighing more than 60 kg up to 65 kg. Meanwhile, Maaliki will compete in the B Class, for athletes between 50-55 kg.

Ginting expressed his hopes for success at the championship.

“My goal is, of course, to win, to make myself and Indonesia proud,” he said enthusiastically on Saturday (12/10/2024).

The participation of Ginting and Maaliki in the Indonesian national pencak silat team is a source of pride for UMS. Ginting revealed that this international championship would serve as a benchmark for their abilities on the world stage.

For both Ginting and Maaliki, this pencak silat championship is expected to be a stepping stone in their athletic careers. Even though only two of them are representing Indonesia in this competition, Ginting and Maaliki remain undaunted, using this opportunity to give their best and bring glory to UMS and Indonesia.

“Bismillah, we will give our best effort in this event. Hopefully, we can continue to achieve success,” he added.

In addition to the Uzbekistan championship, Ginting also has his sights set on upcoming tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Thailand.

Previously, Ginting secured first place in the 2024 National Sports Week (PON). This achievement at PON has fueled both Ginting and Maaliki's motivation to advance on the international stage.

“Since this is an international event, we are more focused on preparing our mental fortitude,” he concluded.
