Karate athletes from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) recorded an impressive achievement at the Magelang International Karate Championship II Mayor of Magelang Cup 2025, held at GOR Samapta on 12–13 December 2025. In the international championship, the UMS contingent secured a total of 19 medals, consisting of 4 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze medals across various competition categories.
One of the gold medalists, Ade Rizky Nazriel, said the team underwent intensive preparation for approximately three months, with training variations adjusted weekly. “Our training was designed to vary each week so that our physical condition and techniques remained optimal until competition day,” Ade said on Wednesday (17/2/2025).
Ade added that support from UMS was a key factor in the team’s success. According to him, the university provided assistance in the form of accommodation and transportation funding during the championship in Magelang.
“The university’s support really helped us stay focused on competing,” he added.
Head of the Subdirectorate of Student Interests, Talents, and Student Organizations at the Directorate of Student Affairs and Innovation Talent Development (DKPTI) UMS, Drs. Suyatmin, M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the achievements of the karate athletes from UKM Lemkari UMS. He described the accomplishment as the result of the athletes’ and coaches’ hard work.
“The victory of the UKM Lemkari UMS team at the international karate competition in Magelang is truly outstanding,” Suyatmin said.
Suyatmin explained that DKPTI UMS consistently prioritizes student participation in competitions, particularly at the international level, by considering readiness and the potential to achieve success. Therefore, athletes are expected to compete with confidence, uphold sportsmanship, and maintain the good name of UMS in the public eye.
“We coordinate with the coaches to assess readiness and medal prospects. If the signals are strong, we send the team and provide full support, from registration and transportation to accommodation,” he explained.
DKPTI UMS has consistently provided financial support as well as direct motivation to the athletes by being present at the competition venue.
