UMS Communication Student Wins Best Creativity at Beauty Muslimah Indonesia 2025

A student of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has once again made a mark on the national stage. Felissa Auriel Rahmalia Putri, a student from the Communication Sciences Program at UMS, won the Best Creativity award at the Beauty Muslimah Indonesia 2025 competition.

Felissa shared that her motivation to join the competition stemmed from her desire to challenge herself beyond academics. She explained that each semester, she sets a personal goal to explore non-academic activities.

“It just so happened that a friend of my mother encouraged me to join a beauty pageant, so I gave it a try,” said Felissa in an interview on Monday (28/4/2025).

She also shared that her main reason for participating was to build the courage to perform in public and meet inspiring women who aim to empower their communities.

Felissa’s achievement is certainly a proud moment, considering the competition attracted 55 participants from 12 provinces across Indonesia. Of those, only 20 received special awards, with Felissa among them.

“I’m very grateful to have made it to the national Top 20,” she said.

Felissa went through several stages during the competition, starting with the Central Java regional audition on November 31, 2024, followed by the national auditions from January 30 to February 1, 2025. She was awarded the Best Creativity title on February 1, 2025.

For the talent segment, Felissa performed the Topeng Ireng dance, an energetic traditional dance from her hometown of Boyolali. Dressed in a striking costume, her performance captivated both the judges and fellow participants.

Despite limited preparation time due to final exams, Felissa gave her best in preparing for all segments, talent performance, interviews, psychological tests, and public speaking rounds.

“Alhamdulillah, the skills I gained from my Communication Science studies at UMS were really helpful, especially when producing and editing videos,” she said.

Outside of competitions, Felissa is also active in social causes. She serves as a Coordinator at the Turun Tangan Solo Raya NGO and frequently shares inspiring content on her social media platforms. For her, beauty is not only about physical appearance, it’s also about character, manners, and positive contributions to society.

Looking ahead, Felissa plans to further develop herself in the fields of fashion and beauty, though she has no immediate plans to join similar competitions. She hopes her achievements can serve as an inspiration to other young women.

“To my fellow UMS students, don’t be afraid to stay active, both academically and non-academically. Set new goals every semester so you can keep growing,” she encouraged.
