A team of students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has once again achieved an international accomplishment. The Synexa team, with its innovation titled Smart Stroke, successfully won a silver medal at the Indonesia International Applied Science Project Olympiad (I2ASPO) 2025.

Smart Stroke is a smartwatch-based innovation designed to assist post-stroke patients. The product functions to monitor patients’ adherence to medication schedules and regular sensorimotor exercises, with support from family members and connectivity to healthcare professionals.

The Synexa team consists of students from various disciplines: Onic Agustino and Nuril Anwar from Informatics Engineering, Dani Hendrawan from Pharmacy, and Zahara Naura Azalia from Physiotherapy. This cross-disciplinary collaboration became a key strength in delivering an innovation that is both practical and relevant to real community needs.

Dani Hendrawan, one of the team members, explained that the innovation was driven by the team’s concern over the high rate of relapse among stroke patients. According to him, this issue is caused by low adherence to therapy processes and the lack of continuous assistance.

“We see that many stroke patients who have undergone therapy still face difficulties in maintaining regular medication intake and physical exercise,” Dani said when interviewed on Tuesday (30/12/2025).

Dani added that their innovation aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly good health and well-being.

“Through Smart Stroke, we aim to present a technology-based solution that can help patients while also involving families in the recovery process,” he added.

This achievement is expected to motivate other UMS students to continue innovating, collaborating across disciplines, and contributing to the development of technological solutions in the health sector.
