The Informatics Engineering program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held the Poster Exhibition and Demo Day Capstone Project 2026, showcasing a range of technology innovation works by students.

The event, held on Saturday (13/6/2026) at the Hall on the 1st Floor of the Siti Walidah Main Building, UMS, served as a platform for 2023 intake students of the UMS Informatics Engineering program to present the final project results from their Capstone Project course.

Capstone Project course lecturer for UMS Informatics Engineering, Geri Gebyar Giwangkoro, M.Kom., said that 40 groups of sixth-semester students presented technology-based works developed over one semester.

"The Capstone Project is essentially the final project for sixth-semester Informatics students. The goal is for them to showcase their products as a form of student contribution to society, because the ideas come from real problems in the community and are then addressed through technology innovation," he explained.

Geri added that each group consisted of four to five students producing various technology products, ranging from applications and information systems to artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

According to him, the development process was carried out through mentoring over one semester. Students regularly submitted weekly reports on project progress, challenges encountered, technologies used, and the process of refining their ideas.

"Assessment is based on the idea proposed, the technology used, and the solution offered for the problem being addressed. The success indicator also looks at users, whether the idea has real benefits and can become an innovation that solves an actual problem," he added.

Through the Poster Exhibition and Demo Day Capstone Project 2026, the UMS Informatics Engineering program hopes students will become increasingly capable of producing innovative works grounded in real-world problems. Geri expressed hope that similar events can continue to grow, bringing technology innovations that are ever more relevant to the needs of society.

One of the works on display was Soloreport, a web-based public complaint system developed by 2023 intake students Nasywa Daniz Azizah, Nashwa M Abdat, Mohammad Shakeel Zain, and Azka Saniyyah.

Sistem tersebut memanfaatkan teknologi Natural Language Processing (NLP) dan dashboard analitik untuk membantu mengklasifikasikan laporan masyarakat secara otomatis.

The system uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology and an analytics dashboard to help automatically classify public reports.

Shakeel explained that Soloreport was created in response to the public's need for a more transparent complaint system. Through the system, users can report issues such as damaged roads by uploading photos and reports, and the system will then help direct the report to the relevant authorities.

"By using this system, the public can track the progress of their report, whether it has been verified or handled by the relevant agency. So it is not just about submitting a report, there is a follow-up process that can be monitored," he said.

In its development, Soloreport uses several technologies including Laravel, Python for NLP processing, and React JS for the user interface. The students hope the work can continue to be developed so that it can benefit both the public and the government in managing public reports.
