Agdanisa Revanya Fasha, a Communication Science student at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), won first place in the News Anchor Competition at the 2024 Indonesia Broadcasting Conference, held by Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ).

The international competition, conducted online, began in September and concluded in October.

Fasha, as she is commonly called, shared that she entered the competition after receiving information from her faculty and later gained the support and approval of her Communication Science lecturers at UMS.

“My lecturer recommended that I register for the competition. Once I got the green light, I signed up right away,” she said on Friday (1/11/2024).

For the competition process, the Communication Science student from UMS explained that she only needed to submit a recorded video she had prepared. However, before that, she had to find a relevant topic to present.

“Since the topic is still widely discussed, I finally chose the topic on the progress of developing the new capital city, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN),” Fasha explained.

The next step, she added, was to organize all the information she had gathered into a news piece. Once the news was compiled to be informative, Fasha then focused on intensive practice to refine her preparation for the video recording, which was then submitted to the committee.

According to Fasha, the judges had specific criteria for selecting the winners, including topic selection, intonation, and expression while presenting the news.

“In addition to the winners for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, there were two other categories: The Most Talented and The Most Favorite,” she added.

Unexpectedly, Fasha has had a strong interest in the field of communication since school and has participated in various competitions, ranging from public speaking to storytelling and broadcasting. However, this was her first time trying a news casting competition.

“My hope for the future is to contribute more actively and participate in competitions to bring pride to my study program and university,” she said.

Fasha continued, explaining that this event was also an opportunity for personal growth and to achieve more. She hopes her accomplishment can inspire her peers to take part in competitions, whether on a national or international stage.
