Exhibitions have become the way Mechanical Engineering students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) showcase their best work during their time at university. This was on full display at the Mechanical Innovation Fair and Automotive Education 2026.
Coordinator of the UMS Mechanical Engineering Group Project course, Afif Faishal, S.T., M.T., explained that this second edition of the exhibition was designed as a creative platform and a stage of appreciation for Mechanical Engineering students. The works on display are the results of appropriate technology research intended to deliver benefits to the wider community.
"We also collaborated with the UMS Mechanical Engineering Student Association. Through this collaboration, we are optimistic that the innovation climate on campus can continue to grow rapidly in line with the demands of the times," Afif said on Thursday (2/7/2026).
At the exhibition, held at the UMS Sports Hall on Thursday, a number of student works drew visitor attention. Featured products on display included an Asphalt Load and Durability Testing Device, a Biogas Digester, a Chopping Machine, a Fish Smoker, a Solar Photovoltaic system, and several other innovative prototypes.
Afif believes the presence of these applied technologies demonstrates the competency of UMS Mechanical Engineering students in designing practical mechanical solutions that address issues in infrastructure, food production, and renewable energy.
"This exhibition is targeted to enhance the academic atmosphere, showcase the results of student innovation, and serve as an overview for younger students when they take the Group Project course in the following year," he explained.
An automotive education session with national automotive industry practitioner Tatang Raharjo, M.Pd., at the Mechanical Innovation Fair and Automotive Education, UMS Sports Hall, July 2, 2026."Students are required to collaborate in teams to design and realize a functional mechanical system with high practical value," Agus said.
Beyond the prototype exhibition, the event was also enriched by an automotive education session featuring Tatang Raharjo, M.Pd., a Master Assessor at the National Professional Certification Agency and an expert practitioner in the national automotive sector.
In his presentation, Tatang delivered material on the latest innovations in the electric vehicle industry, covering technological developments and future implementation opportunities.
