The Faculty of Law and Political Science (FHIP) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) continues to strengthen its commitment to the internationalization of education through a sit-in, or class immersion, program at the Faculty of Law of Ton Duc Thang University, Vietnam. The program, held from 9 to 14 June 2026, was attended by five FHIP UMS students accompanied by three lecturers.
The three accompanying lecturers, Dr. Syaifuddin Zuhdi, S.H.I., M.H.I., Hanifah Febriani, S.H., LL.M., and Muhammad RM Fayasy Failaq, S.H., M.H., guided the students through various academic activities designed to broaden their understanding of the Vietnamese legal system while enriching their learning experience in an international environment.
The accompanying lecturers and sit-in program participants pose for a group photo at Inspire Library TDTU, Vietnam.Throughout the program, students took part in lectures on Vietnamese Criminal Procedure Law and Vietnamese Contract Law, a campus tour, and a visit to the Inspire Library TDTU. These activities gave students the opportunity to understand the learning system and legal practice in Vietnam while building international networks with TDTU students and lecturers.
During the lecture sessions, FHIP UMS students joined TDTU students in group discussions and simulations of legal case resolution. In the Vietnamese Contract Law course, they analyzed various contract cases and shared perspectives on the application of contract law in Indonesia.
One participant, Raffi Abhyasa Saputra, shared that the international exposure program provided a highly valuable academic and cultural experience. He studied the Vietnamese legal system, court proceedings, and comparisons between Indonesian and Vietnamese contract law, all of which enriched his scholarly perspective.
Beyond that, the various discussions, presentations, and interactions with TDTU students and lecturers also improved his English communication skills while expanding his international network.
"This program has given me a new perspective that is truly valuable for my personal development as a law student," he said on Saturday (4/7/2026).
In addition to attending lectures, the UMS delegation also visited Inspire Library TDTU. The visit gave them an overview of the university's history, its modern library management system, and the use of various learning support facilities, including audio-visual rooms.
Hanifah Febriani views international academic experience as an important asset for law students amid global challenges.
"Through this activity, students can expand their international network and gain new perspectives that differ from their learning experiences in Indonesia," she said.
Meanwhile, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law at TDTU, Chau Bao Anh, expressed appreciation for the participation of FHIP UMS students in the program. She hopes that opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions can continue to grow through sustained communication and collaboration.
The sit-in program is an implementation of the cooperation between FHIP UMS and Ton Duc Thang University, which was designed the previous year. The collaboration is part of both institutions' efforts to strengthen international partnerships in education, research, and academic exchange.
