The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), has once again produced 55 new doctors in the Inauguration and Oath-taking Ceremony of New Doctors Period LVI, held at The Alana Hotel Solo on Wednesday (5/11/2025). The event, themed “Reminiseentiam Ad Somnium: Memories Toward a New Dream,” served as both an emotional milestone and the beginning of a new journey of service for UMS’s young medical graduates.

The 55 new doctors consist of 15 men and 40 women, bringing the total number of graduates from the Faculty of Medicine UMS since 2004 to 1,634. The title of best graduate was awarded to M. Zain Firdaus with a GPA of 3.87, while the youngest graduate was Salsabila Ulima Hidayati, who completed her studies at the age of 23 years and 7 months.

In her remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine UMS, Dr. dr. Flora Ramona Sigit Prakoeswa, M.Kes., Sp.DV., FINSDV, expressed her deep appreciation for the perseverance of the graduates who had gone through a long and challenging process, from enduring the pandemic period, clinical education, to the national medical examination. She emphasized the importance of moral responsibility and unwavering commitment to humanity that every doctor must uphold.

“A doctor must be professional, religious, and possess noble character. It’s not enough to be academically intelligent; one must also have warmth of spirit, resilience, and a lifelong passion for learning,” Flora stated in her address.

She also reminded the new doctors not to fear failure and to always have the courage to try again. “A life that is not fought for will never be won. Failure is not the end, but an opportunity to rise again. Be a true lifelong learner,” she added.

Meanwhile, Vice Rector II of UMS, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Da’i, S.Si., M.Si., Apt., who attended on behalf of the Rector of UMS, extended his congratulations to the newly inaugurated doctors and their families. In his speech, he underscored three core values that every UMS medical graduate must uphold, knowledge, ethics, and service.

“Medical science continues to evolve, so never stop learning. Hold firmly to professional ethics, and let service be your expression of faith in Allah SWT. These are the marks of a Muhammadiyah doctor, excellent in knowledge, grounded in integrity, and serving with compassion,” Da’i emphasized.

At the same event, Chairman of the UMS Board of Trustees (BPH), Drs. H. Marpuji Ali, M.Si., emphasized that the medical profession is an integral part of Muhammadiyah’s da’wah in the field of health. According to him, the Faculty of Medicine at UMS serves not only as a place of learning but also as a means of practicing amar ma’ruf nahi munkar through healthcare services for the community.

He reminded the graduates to remain humble and devoted to their parents. “After becoming doctors, continue to be humble individuals. Knowledge and titles mean nothing without manners and respect,” he said before the audience.

Marpuji Ali also encouraged the new doctors to embrace the spirit of service.

“Being a doctor means being ready to serve. Muhammadiyah has built hospitals and clinics across the nation, even in remote areas. We hope to see young doctors who are willing to dedicate themselves there, bringing light to communities in need,” he added.

One of the graduates, Dr. Tia Mella Citra, expressed her gratitude to the lecturers, educators, and parents who supported them throughout their journey. “Today is not the end of our path, but the beginning of our service to society. Thank you, UMS, and thank you, dear parents, for all the prayers and love that brought us to this point,” she said emotionally.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by university leaders, representatives from partner hospitals, the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) of Surakarta, Sukoharjo, and Karanganyar, as well as the families of the new doctors. The event concluded with a prayer, the presentation of tokens of appreciation, and a group photo session.

With the graduation of 55 new doctors, UMS once again reaffirms its commitment to nurturing competent, ethical, and compassionate healthcare professionals, upholding the spirit of knowledge, faith, and service, and strengthening its dedication to realizing the vision of UMS as an Islamic University Leader that is enlightening, excellent, global, and sustainable, while guiding change for the better.
