To bolster international networks and advance towards achieving a world-class university, Prof. Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Si., the Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), undertook a visit to the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Hong Kong.
Accompanying the UMS Rector on the visit were Prof. Dr. Anam Sutopo, S.Pd., M.Hum., the Secretary of the Rector, and Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., the Vice Rector for Academic, Research, PkM, and Publication. This visit to Hong Kong and Macau took place from 22nd to 25th February 2024.
The Secretary of the UMS Rector mentioned, “Apart from the meeting with Yul Edison, the Consul of the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, UMS also inaugurated the International Conference on Education for All. The Association of Educational Institutions for Educational Personnel of Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah Universities (LPTK PTMA) organized the conference in collaboration with Hong Kong University.” (23/2/2024).

Aside from the visit to the KJRI to discuss international cooperation and explore potential collaborations for UMS programs, the Rector of UMS also engaged in benchmarking activities at the University of Macau.
Yul Edison warmly welcomed the UMS Rector and appreciated the intention to develop collaborative academic activities in Hong Kong. The Consulate General assured full support for the activities that UMS will undertake in Hong Kong in collaboration with local universities.
During his presentation in the meeting with the KJRI, Rector Sofyan Anif emphasized that UMS, as a renowned and internationally recognized university, consistently expands its horizons to engage in collaborations with diverse partners.
The Secretary of the UMS Rector conveyed, “A few months ago, the Rector had an understanding about our collaboration with Melbourne University and the Indonesian Studies Community in Victoria City and MAC for the development of UMS activities. It is our opportunity to advance academic initiatives in Hong Kong and Macau.”
Sofyan Anif further emphasized that holistic education represents a breakthrough in nurturing human resources to comprehend the entirety of life’s meaning. Holistic education and Outcome-Based Education (OBE) constitute an integral aspect of the ongoing advancements in education. Moving forward, the commitment to developing holistic education and OBE remains steadfast, aiming to realize a modern, enjoyable, and progressive education.
The UMS Rector’s agenda will continue with a working visit to the University of Macau and a meeting with the Aisyiyah Special Branch (PCIA) in Hong Kong.
In every international activity, the UMS Rector engages in academic and official functions and ensures to connect with the local Muhammadiyah branch. This involves interacting and discussing with the local Aisyiyah Special Branch (PCIA) / Muhammadiyah Special Branch (PCIM) to advance Muhammadiyah. Currently, the UMS Rector, accompanied by the Secretary of the Rector, is in discussions with the board of Hong Kong PCIA regarding the development of Muhammadiyah.
