Students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) once again made a mark at the national level. Samiyem, the Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) Commissariat of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK) UMS, won 2nd place in the 2025 Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah University Student Achievement Selection (Pilmapres PTMA). In addition, Inas Yadya Laksita Dewi from the Faculty of Pharmacy was awarded 1st runner-up in League 1.
In an interview, Samiyem shared that the preparation for the competition was quite challenging. “I was honestly a bit surprised because we were only given six days to prepare our documents. Initially it was four days, then they added two more. In that time, we had to submit an English-language video and a creative idea,” she said on Wednesday (2/4/2025).
Samiyem was one of two UMS delegates participating in the event. Alongside her teammate Inas from the pharmacy program, both worked tirelessly, even skipping classes, to complete the required materials.
“We really had to manage our time well, from waking up for sahur to getting back on the laptop to work on the selection tasks,” she added.
In Pilmapres PTMA 2025, the competition was divided into three leagues, League 1, League 2, and League 3, with an additional league for diploma students. UMS was placed in League 1, and both of its delegates successfully made it into the Top 10
After passing the document screening phase, participants went through three assessment stages: a creative idea presentation, an outstanding achievements interview, and an English-language interview. These three components were the main criteria used to determine the final scores in the Pilmapres PTMA 2025.
Regarding his future hopes, Samiyem wishes that her achievement can inspire other students and serve as a stepping stone toward regional and national-level selections.
“I hope this achievement brings good recognition to the Physiotherapy Program, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and UMS as a whole. I also want to prepare myself for the upcoming university-level internal selection, regional selection, and eventually the national level. Hopefully, UMS can continue to shine on higher stages,” she said.
Beyond academic accomplishments, Samiyem emphasized that involvement in student organizations also played a crucial role in the Pilmapres selection.
“Organizational involvement really matters. It’s not just academic achievements being evaluated, but also participation in organizations, leadership experience, community service, and being a speaker in various forums. All of these are key points in the selection process,” she explained.
The success of Samiyem and Inas in Pilmapres PTMA 2025 shows that UMS students excel not only in academics but also in leadership and meaningful contributions to society.
This achievement is expected to motivate other UMS students to keep striving, creating, and making the university proud in both national and international arenas.
