The Capital Market Study Group (KSPM) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held Investalk 2025 on Tuesday (25/11/2025) at the Mohammad Djazman Auditorium, UMS Campus 1. Carrying the theme “Discover Your Future: Exploring Career Opportunities in the Capital Market,” the event discussed career prospects in the financial industry, particularly within the capital market, which continues to grow in line with global dynamics.
Wahyudi, Chair of KSPM UMS, stated that this activity serves as an initial step for students to build networks with industry professionals. “We want our friends to realize that the future must be planned. Investment is not merely about money, but about preparing for a safer and more purposeful future,” he said, Friday (28/11/2025).
In addition, KSPM UMS also introduced several educational programs that will continue to be held in the future, such as a capital market school, regular stock classes, and trading simulation challenges.
The event presented two speakers with extensive experience in the world of investment and the capital market: Ari Seta Kurniawan, Deputy Head of Regional Office for the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) Representative Office Central Java 2, and Alif Rahman Aviecin, Senior Investment Specialist at Mirae Asset Sekuritas.
Ari Seta Kurniawan opened the discussion by outlining the development of Indonesia’s capital market, starting from the role of the IDX as a trading facilitator and regulator, to its efforts in maintaining market liquidity and creating new instruments.
Ari also explained how digitalization, through services such as IDX Mobile, has boosted financial inclusion and made access easier for young investors.
He emphasized that the capital market ecosystem involves various institutions including securities firms, investment managers, custodians, and other supporting professions, meaning that the demand for human resources in this sector will continue to grow.
“The capital market is not just about numbers; it is about how public trust is built. Young professionals have a major role in making this ecosystem more inclusive,” Ari said.
Meanwhile, Alif Rahman Aviecin shared compelling insights from his career journey. He explained the responsibilities of an investment specialist, starting from facilitating daily transactions and providing investor education, to carrying out brokerage and market-making functions that help maintain market liquidity.
Alif also presented an overview of transaction growth in the capital market, including how securities firms contribute to the steadily rising trading frequency.
Not only speaking in theory, he offered several practical steps students can take to start building their careers, such as pursuing capital market certifications, joining investment communities, strengthening their portfolios, and developing professional branding on social media.
“A high salary is not impossible in the capital market. But it all depends on the skills you prepare from now,” he said, motivating the students.
The event unfolded in a warm and interactive atmosphere. Many students were eager to ask questions about internship opportunities, supporting certifications, day-to-day routines in securities companies, and how to manage personal investments without falling into high-risk traps.
