Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) hosted the prestigious Medical Scientific Competition (Medsco) at the Ramada Hotel, Surakarta, on Friday (7/11/2025). The event was officially opened by UMS Rector Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., and attended by participants from various universities across the country.

Medsco is a competition specially designed for students of medical and medical education programs, featuring several categories including Educational Video, Scientific Poster, Public Poster, and Scientific Essay.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Harun emphasized the importance of Medsco as a platform for students to enhance their academic and scientific potential. He expressed his hope that Medsco would continue as an annual event, rotating across different cities in Indonesia, and potentially, in the future, on an international scale.

“UMS has established collaborations with several Indonesian Embassies (KBRI) and Consulates General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) to facilitate the implementation of Medsco abroad, with neighboring countries such as Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand as the initial targets,” said Harun.

Also attending the event was the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Medicine UMS, dr. Sulistyani, Sp.N., who reminded all participants to uphold sportsmanship and integrity throughout the competition. Sulistyani emphasized the importance of transparency in the judging process and encouraged all participants not to be discouraged if they have not yet succeeded, and not to become overly complacent if they have.

With the spirit and commitment to continuously enhance the quality of education and research in the field of medicine, Medsco is expected to become a productive and beneficial platform for all participants.
