Sexual Harassment Prevention & Handling Task Force (Satgas PPKPT) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held a Training on the Prevention and Handling of Violence at the Meeting Room of the KH Ahmad Dahlan Edutorium, UMS, on Saturday (27/9/2025).

Head of the Satgas PPKPT UMS, Dr. Marisa Kurnianingsih, S.H., M.H., M.Kn., explained that the training aimed to provide UMS academic community members with knowledge and skills related to the implementation of PPKPT at the university.

“This is an annual activity as part of our effort to prevent violence and to socialize the message that UMS does not tolerate any form of violence,” Marisa stated.

The two-day training was held on September 27–28, 2025, and was attended by around 100 participants, consisting of students, lecturers, and education staff at UMS. Fifteen student members of the Satgas PPKPT also took part in the program.

“We want to involve the UMS community in preventing violence so that they know where to report if an incident occurs and can also help oversee the handling of cases,” Marisa added.

UMS Rector, Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., emphasized that the establishment of the Satgas PPKPT reflects UMS strong commitment to protecting its entire academic community.

“Protection against various forms of violence whether verbal or nonverbal is a responsibility we take seriously,” he stated.

Several external speakers were also invited to share their expertise, including representatives from the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region VI Central Java, the PPK Task Force of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), the Legal Aid Institute of the Indonesian Women’s Association for Justice, the Solidarity Foundation for Women, Humanity, and Human Rights, and the Women and Children Protection Unit of Surakarta.

Muhammad Muhsin, Head Coordinator of PPKPT at LLDIKTI VI Central Java, presented material on the legal framework and potential forms of violence in higher education. He also introduced the function and role of Satgas PPKPT within campus environments to the training participants.

“We also encourage students to be more courageous in reporting incidents of violence to the Satgas PPKPT if they occur on campus,” he stated.

Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Si., Chair of the UNS PPK Task Force, delivered a session during the Training on the Prevention and Handling of Violence held at the KH Ahmad Dahlan Edutorium UMS on September 27, 2025. UMS PR/Luqman Hakim.

In her presentation, Prof. Ismi explained the workflow for preparing Satgas PPKPT reporting documents. These documents, she noted, are categorized into several types, policy documents, operational documents, as well as legal protection documents for victims and witnesses.

Since 2022, Prof. Ismi has led the Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force at UNS. She shared her experiences in handling such cases to help strengthen the role of UMS Satgas PPKPT.

“The main challenge is aligning the mindset of the entire academic community and partner institutions,” Prof. Ismi emphasized.

She added that building a shared understanding of the Satgas PPKPT’s role is crucial to ensuring that victims feel safe to report. By bringing cases to the Satgas, victims and witnesses are guaranteed their rights, including the protection of personal identity and comprehensive case handling until resolution.
