Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) received two awards at the Indonesia Top Achievements of The Year 2026 event held at Grand Studio Metro TV, Kedoya, Kebon Jeruk, Jakarta, on Friday evening (20/2/2026).
UMS received the Excellence in Islamic World Class University Performance 2026 award. Meanwhile, the Rector of UMS, Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., received the Best Transformational Leader in Islamic Higher Education 2026 award.
The awards were presented during a ceremony attended by several national figures and institutional leaders. The event recognized institutions with outstanding achievements and innovations in the education, health, and digital sectors. The judging process was conducted on 11 February 2026 prior to the main award ceremony.
Indonesia Top Achievement of the Year 2026, under the theme "Transforming for Reinventing Indonesia," is a call to move forward boldly, to go beyond the times, to improve systems, and to create new breakthroughs in rebuilding the nation's strength through innovation, visionary leadership, and tangible contributions to society.
The awards were presented by the Chairperson of the Press Council, Prof. Dr. Komaruddin Hidayat, accompanied by a representative of Metro TV. The achievement reaffirms UMS position as an Islamic higher education institution that continues to transform toward a global orientation.
Harun emphasized that the award was not merely a personal achievement, but a recognition of the institution's collective work. "This award and appreciation are not personal. This is an award for the institution, for the entire UMS family," he said after receiving the award.
He expressed gratitude as well as appreciation to the entire UMS academic community and the event organizers. According to him, the achievement is inseparable from the long-standing foundation that has been built since UMS was established decades ago.
Harun explained that transformation is the key word in UMS development. In addition to being transformational, the campus also continuously pursues innovation in a sustainable manner. He stressed that transformation and innovation must provide tangible contributions and have a broad impact on society.
"Transformation and innovation are not enough if they are not sustainable and do not create impact. Higher education institutions must be loved, trusted, and able to contribute to the nation," he emphasized.
Through the development of an integrated Islamic and science-based curriculum, UMS continues to transform from a nationally oriented campus into a globally competitive university. This approach has become one of the key factors that led UMS to excel at the Indonesia Top Achievements of The Year 2026.
For Harun, the achievement of these two awards reaffirms UMS commitment to strengthening higher education governance based on Islamic values, sustainable innovation, and real contributions to society. This achievement further solidifies UMS's position as one of the progressive and adaptive Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia.
