Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Karanganyar Regency. This step aims to maximize regional potential through the university’s Catur Dharma.

In his remarks, UMS Rector Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., stated that this collaboration marks a strategic momentum in building synergy between the two institutions. “We are grateful to unite and align our hearts, to bring together our potential, in order to strengthen the two pillars, Karanganyar Regency and UMS,” he said in the BPH Meeting Room, Friday (21/11/2025).

He emphasized that UMS will strive to optimize the potential of Karanganyar Regency through the implementation of the university’s Catur Dharma activities.

“To increase student intake from Karanganyar Regency, the prerequisite is that we will intensify Catur Dharma programs, one of which will be focused in Karanganyar,” he added.

The Rector also stressed that this collaboration is not driven by the fact that UMS alumni currently serve as the regent and vice-regent, but purely because Karanganyar holds great potential. “Karanganyar itself is attractive,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Karanganyar, Rober Christanto, S.E., M.M., together with the Vice-Regent H. Adhe Eliana, S.E., described the potential of their region.

He said that what other regions such as Malang have, Karanganyar actually has as well. However, the academic sector in Karanganyar is still developing and has now begun to grow thanks to the presence of Universitas Muhammadiyah Karanganyar (UMUKA), a university fostered by UMS.

“We ask for collaboration and support from UMS to come to Karanganyar. We need research, or perhaps community empowerment,” said the Regent of Karanganyar.

He expressed his intention to optimize the region’s locally generated revenue (PAD) as well as Karanganyar’s strategic assets through collaborations with various investors facilitated by UMS.

He assured that Karanganyar is more than willing to synergize with various UMS programs such as community empowerment, KKN, and promotional activities. In addition, the Regent also appreciated UMS’ support for UMUKA, which he said has brought positive impact.

“With this collaboration between Karanganyar and UMS, we truly hope it will bring significant impact to Karanganyar Regency and to UMS. Let’s move forward together,” he concluded.

The Regent is confident that the academic excellence of UMS has been proven and is trusted to bring strength and pride.
