There are many engaging activities held during car free day (CFD). These include not only sports, but also culinary experiences, art performances, and religious activities.

For Mahasiswa Pencinta Al-Qur'an (MPQ) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), CFD serves as an ideal platform to bring Islam closer to the community. With that idea, they organized an activity titled "Ngaji on the Road (Ngaroad)."

MPQ member and head of the organizing committee, Muhammad Syukron, said that Ngaroad is MPQ's effort to foster enthusiasm for learning the Qur'an within the community.

"The hope is that this activity can become a collective effort to eradicate hijaiyyah illiteracy and nurture the spirit of learning the Qur'an in the community," said the man commonly known as Syukron on Thursday (19/2/2026).

Members of MPQ UMS held Ngaji on the Road during car free day on Jalan Slamet Riyadi, Solo, Central Java, on 15 February 2026. They provided support to people of various ages through free Qur'an reading lessons.

Ngaroad is a routine activity of MPQ UMS held once every three months. Syukron said the program has been regularly conducted since 2023. It is packaged as direct Qur'an reading instruction for members of the public attending CFD.

Most recently, MPQ organized Ngaroad at CFD Slamet Riyadi, Solo, Central Java, on Sunday (15/2/2026). This event also collaborated with the Muhammadiyah Student Association of Pondok Shabran UMS. "Usually we hold it at CFD Colomadu, Karanganyar. But this time it was at CFD Slamet Riyadi Solo," Syukron added.

A total of 60 participants joined the Ngaroad activity. The majority were children and teenagers. This demonstrates strong public interest in learning the Qur'an in open public spaces.

However, Syukron noted that Ngaroad participants are not limited to a certain age group. Adults are also given guidance and support to learn how to read the Qur'an correctly.

Syukron acknowledged that one of the challenges for adults in joining activities like Ngaroad is overcoming feelings of embarrassment. "Many adults feel shy because they cannot yet read the Qur'an (still at the Iqra stage) in an open environment like CFD. But we are happy to assist them with Iqra," Syukron said optimistically.

He invited the public to learn the Qur'an even in adulthood. "No matter your age or background, nothing should prevent you from learning the Qur'an," he emphasized.

Through this activity, MPQ UMS and IMM Pondok Shabran are committed to spreading Islam and reaching a broader community in the future.
