About Competitive Research
Theme and Sub-theme
Competitive research has a specific set of research themes to accommodate the diverse academic fields at UMS. There are three main themes, each with seven sub-themes, and two additional themes, which include:

UMS' Competitive Research Grant program requires research proposals to be aligned with the predetermined themes and to be multi-year (up to 2 years). The maximum funding for each proposal is Rp15.000.000 (fifteen million rupiah) per year.
Output
UMS' Competitive Research Grant program requires researchers to produce at least one of the following outputs:
- 1 article published in a Sinta 1/Sinta 2 indexed journal
- 2 articles published in Sinta 3 and/or Sinta 4 indexed journals
- 1 article published in a Sinta 3/Sinta 4 indexed journal and 1 intellectual property (IP)
In addition to these outputs, researchers are also expected to produce:
- 1 Student Creativity Program Proposal/thesis/final project.
Technology Readiness Level
To be eligible for funding, research proposals must be classified into one of the following Technology Readiness Level (TRL) ranges:
- Basic research: TRL 1, 2 or 3
- Applied research: TRL 3, 5 or 6
- Development research: TRL 7, 8 or 9
Criteria and Requirement
- The research team consists of at least 1 lead researcher, a minimum of 3 lecturers, and a minimum of 3 students.
- The lead researcher must have at least a Master's degree (S2), hold a lecturer ID number (NIDN), and have a minimum functional position of lecturer.
- The research team must come from a minimum of two different faculties (interdisciplinary).
- The biodata of all research team members must be attached and signed in blue ink.
- The research team can propose for a period of no more than 2 years, except for researchers who have successfully obtained a patent or published their research results in a reputable international journal.
- The research team can only propose 1 project in the same scheme and year, either as the lead researcher or as a member.
- The lead researcher cannot serve as the lead in another research scheme unless they have an H-Index of Scopus ≥ 5 (in the field of applied sciences) or ≥ 3 (in the field of social sciences and humanities) or have 1 Granted Patent.
- The lead researcher who delegates to a member during the proposal presentation must attach a notarized power of attorney signed by the lead researcher.
- Research that is terminated prematurely due to negligence will be subject to a sanction of not being allowed to submit a proposal to UMS LRI for a period of 2 consecutive years, or other sanctions as deemed appropriate based on the negligence.
- After the research is completed, the researchers are obliged to upload the promised outputs as stated in the proposal.
Procedure for Research Proposal Submission
The submission of Competitive Research Proposals is done by providing the researcher's details and uploading the proposal through MyBima on the following page https://mybima.ums.ac.id/.
The following are the steps that need to be followed:
- Log in to MyBima using your UniI ID username and password.
- Select "Riset" (Research) and click on "Riset Batch Aktif" (Active Research Batch) , then click "Ajukan Usulan baru" (Submit a New Proposal).
- Choose the scheme you want to submit and click "Riset Kompetitif" (Competitive Research).
- The screen will display the "Persyaratan Usulan Riset Kompetitif" (Requirements for Competitive Research Proposals).
- Make sure all the listed requirements can be fulfilled and check the boxes provided.
- Fill in all the fields and selections in the available form.
- Ask team members to approve their participation by logging into MyBima with their UniI ID.
- Download the approval sheet from the MyBima page.
- Complete the approval sheet from LRI and combine it with the complete proposal, then upload it.
- Click "Ajukan Proposal" (Submit Proposal) and attach the soft file of the proposal (in document (doc) or PDF format) to the proposal document icon. This will register the Competitive Research Grant proposal as a proposer in the current batch/period.
- If the proposal passes the desk evaluation, the proposer will be invited to present and discuss the Competitive Research Proposal, the time of which will be scheduled by LRI UMS.
