In an effort to support the development of teachers’ technological competencies, the Majelis Dikdasmen of Surakarta City, in collaboration with the Faculty of Islamic Studies of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), organized deep learning training and mentoring for ISMUBA (Al-Islam, Kemuhammadiyahan, and Arabic Language) teachers at SMK Muhammadiyah 4 Surakarta. The training was intended to improve teachers’ ability to utilize technology in the learning process, particularly the application of deep learning technology, which can be used to enrich students’ learning experiences and enhance teaching effectiveness.

The training event was opened by Dr. Mohamad Ali, S.Ag., M.Pd., who stated, “Ismuba/AIK education is a medium for the socialization and internalization of Muhammadiyah’s worldview on Islamic teachings, with the aim that all members of schools, madrasahs, and pesantren are able to think, behave, and act in accordance with Muhammadiyah principles.”

He also emphasized the importance of integrating Muhammadiyah values into education, including in the use of technology in the teaching and learning process.

Meanwhile, the first speaker, Dr. Istanto, S.Pd.I., M.Pd., highlighted the importance of technology in the ever-evolving world of education.

“By utilizing technologies such as deep learning, we can provide more interactive and effective learning experiences for students, while also helping teachers optimize the learning process,” Istanto said.

This statement reflected his belief that technology can be a highly useful tool in creating more engaging and beneficial learning experiences.

Mohammad Ali then returned as the second speaker, this time sharing insights on the application of deep learning in the context of religious education. He stated that deep learning can be used to analyze educational data and strengthen students’ understanding of religious subjects, particularly in the context of ISMUBA learning. This demonstrated how technology can help deepen students’ understanding of religious values while also facilitating teachers in managing more relevant and effective teaching materials.

The training did not focus solely on theory but was also complemented by practical sessions that allowed participants to directly apply deep learning concepts in their daily teaching practices. Teachers were given the opportunity to develop technology-based learning models that could be implemented in the classroom, introducing new approaches to teaching through the use of advanced and rapidly developing technologies.

Through this training, ISMUBA teachers are expected to make greater use of technology in the learning process, improve the quality of instruction, and inspire students to better understand and master technology, which is increasingly relevant in today’s era. In addition, participants are also expected to serve as role models in utilizing technology to enhance the quality of education within their respective environments.

This training is part of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta’s community service initiatives based on the development and empowerment of assisted villages. It is hoped that similar activities will continue and provide further training and mentoring for teachers and the wider community, in order to create a generation that is not only academically capable but also technologically literate.

The activity was enthusiastically welcomed by participants, who felt inspired and motivated to implement the knowledge they gained to improve the quality of their teaching. As a closing remark, Istanto expressed his hope that this training would become a starting point for advancing technology-based education in Surakarta and its surrounding areas, and pave the way for more progressive educational development in the future.
