The Medical Assistance Team (TBM) Gyrus, a student organization under the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (FK UMS), in collaboration with Gatak Community Health Center (Puskesmas Gatak), organized a Free Health Check (CKG) and mental health education program for vocational high school (SMK) students, particularly Grade XII students, in December 2025.

The Chair of the Organizing Committee, Lana Syifaul Aufi Kamila, explained that the program was part of FK UMS students’ support for the national free health screening agenda initiated by the government. December also marked the final period for the implementation of CKG for students in 2025.

“CKG is a routine government program that is conducted several times a year. Coincidentally, December was the final period in 2025, so we from TBM Gyrus FK UMS joined forces with Puskesmas Gatak to help carry out free health checks for SMK students,” Lana said during an interview on Thursday (8/1/2026).

In addition to physical health examinations such as height and blood pressure measurements, TBM Gyrus also held a mental health talk show. This activity was considered relevant to the condition of Grade XII students who are currently facing final examinations and preparing to enter higher education.

“Mental health issues are currently very close to adolescents, especially Grade XII students. This talk show aims to help prepare their mental readiness before facing exams and the transition to university life,” she added.

Meanwhile, Ayu Zahrani, as the steering committee (SC) of the activity, explained that the program was part of Gyrus’ annual work program, Gyrus as Volunteer for Humanity, which has become a hallmark of community service carried out by TBM Gyrus FK UMS.

“TBM Gyrus is a student activity unit (UKM) under the BEM FK UMS. Every year we are required to carry out at least one community service activity. Usually, we focus on fostered villages, but this year we joined a government program through collaboration with Puskesmas Gatak to conduct health checks for SMK students,” Ayu explained.

In its implementation, TBM Gyrus was directly involved in the examination and education processes, as well as assisting with the recapitulation of examination result data. Follow-up actions based on the examination results were then fully handled by Puskesmas Gatak.

In addition, the activity was conducted under the patronage of the Dean of FK UMS, Dr. dr. Flora Ramona Sigit Prakoeswa, M.Kes., Sp.DVE., Dipl. STD-HIV/AIDS., FINSDV., FAADV., with the Advisor being the Vice Dean III of FK UMS, dr. Sulistyani, Sp.N., and the supervisor of UKM TBM Gyrus, dr. Dodik Nursanto, M.Biomed.

“For follow-up, we assist at the examination stage and with data entry. After that, further health follow-up for the students is carried out directly by Puskesmas Gatak according to their procedures,” Ayu explained.

Lana added that in the final session of the examination, students also received personalized health education. If high blood pressure or certain conditions were detected, students were given explanations regarding the causes and appropriate management.

Through this activity, TBM Gyrus FK UMS hopes to increase students’ awareness of the importance of maintaining health from an early age, both physically and mentally. In addition, mental health education is expected to reduce negative stigma and encourage students to be more caring and open about their mental health conditions.

Going forward, TBM Gyrus FK UMS hopes to continue building cooperation with Puskesmas Gatak in various community service agendas. “We hope that next year we can continue to collaborate and contribute to community health activities together with Puskesmas Gatak,” Ayu concluded.
