Students from the Informatics Engineering Education (PTI) program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) showcased a range of technology innovations at the Internet of Things (IoT) Project Exhibition 2026. The exhibition served as a final project showcase for the IoT course by sixth-semester PTI UMS students.
The course lecturer, Jan Wantoro, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., said PTI UMS encourages students to understand IoT theory while producing technology solutions that are practical and relevant to the needs of society.
"The IoT Project Exhibition is hoped to become a platform for learning, innovation, and collaboration that continues to grow each year," he said when contacted on Saturday (13/6/2026).
Visitors were visibly enthusiastic as they filled the student booths at the exhibition, which opened on Thursday, June 11, 2026. A total of 16 groups explained how their devices work, the use of sensors, microcontroller integration, and the benefits of their innovations in daily life and the industrial sector.

The projects on display included automatic plant watering based on environmental conditions, a scheduled automatic betta fish feeder, digital parking and attendance systems, and the use of sensors and automatic identification. There were also projects for monitoring water tanks and poultry house blowers, as well as innovations for controlling equipment based on real-time sensor data.
All projects were assessed by PTI UMS lecturers as well as lecturers from outside the program. In addition to the official assessment, visitors were also given the opportunity to vote for the project they considered most innovative and beneficial.
One group with their Smart Plant Monitoring and Automatic Watering System innovation won the title of best IoT product. Team leader Shandy Yusril Fadlullah said the product can monitor air temperature, soil temperature, and soil moisture.
"This system allows users to monitor plant conditions in real time while also managing watering either manually or automatically. The sensors used can read air temperature, soil temperature, and soil moisture, so watering can be carried out according to the needs of the plant," Shandy explained.
