The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) once again held the International Conference on Learning and Advanced Education (ICOLAE) 2024, an international-scale education conference. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, with an offline session at the Mohamad Djazman Auditorium, UMS Campus I, and an online session via Zoom Meeting, on Saturday (7/12/2024).

This year, ICOLAE adopted the theme of "Educational Innovation through Technology Integration in Various Educational Settings."

Mauly Halwat Hikmat, Ph.D., Chairperson of the ICOLAE 2024 Committee and Vice Dean I of FKIP UMS, stated that the conference is one of FKIP's annual programs under the auspices of The International Summit on Science, Technology, and Humanity (ISETH), which is a part of UMS.

“ICOLAE is a strategic channel for promoting scientific publication outputs, both for students and lecturers. This year, we successfully hosted a total of 313 presenters, with 247 onsite participants and 47 confirmed online participants,” she explained.

Mauly added that the ICOLAE conference was attended by academics from various countries, such as Bangladesh, Tanzania, Pakistan, Rwanda, Malawi, Uganda, Thailand, the Philippines, and Gambia.

“We are proud of the presence of international presenters from Rwanda and participants from various universities in Indonesia, such as UGM, UNS, UII, UMP, Universitas Mulawarman, and Universitas Bengkulu”" she added.

The event opened with a discussion session featuring keynote speakers: Kristof Fenyvesi, Ph.D. (University of Jyvaskila, Finland), Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Siti Hajar H. (University Malaya Malaysia), and Dr. Laili Etika Rahmawati, M.Pd. (Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta). After the plenary session, participants continued discussions in parallel sessions divided into two rounds, before and after the midday prayer.

This year, more than 50 percent of the presenters were UMS students collaborating with lecturers in presenting their research or theses.

“This aligns with our target to boost the number of academic publications at both the national and international levels,” she said.

With this spirit of innovation and collaboration, Mauly added, ICOLAE 2024 serves as tangible evidence of UMS contribution to the development of global knowledge and education. She hopes that ICOLAE will continue to be a sustainable academic collaboration platform.

“We are optimistic that ICOLAE will remain a prestigious event that not only brings pride to UMS but also enhances Indonesia's educational standing on the international stage,” she concluded.
