For the first time after the Covid-19 pandemic, the Biology Study Program, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held "Gelar Karya Inovasi Media Pembelajaran Biologi" following the theme "Media Inspiration for Education Advancement" on Thursday (26/01) which was held at the Muh Djazman Auditorium UMS.

On that occasion, the Head of the Biology Education Study Program, Putri Agustina S.Pd., M.Pd., said that this activity was the final product of the Learning Media Innovation course.

This activity involves teachers as users of instructional media, both junior and senior high school teachers from partner schools. These teachers were UMS alumni who became the jury in the final project assessment being exhibited

"The importance of this activity is as a media of promotion and community service," said the Head of the Biology Education Study Program, Putri Agustina.

According to her, learning media is very important for students as prospective teachers, because it is a pedagogic competence that must be possessed by teachers. When they make learning media that they develop themselves, it will hit more.

"There are thousands of Biology Education graduates out there, so it is necessary for UMS Biology Education students to have more value. So that we hope this ability can be a provision when entering the work environment," she explained.

The competencies obtained can later be applied in schools as a reference for learning media and the results of this product will also be donated to schools so that they can be more useful.

"Later, the best learning media will be selected and a special reward will be given. In addition, the most innovative media will be included in competitions both national and international," said Putri.

On the same occasion, Lecturer for Learning Media Courses Rina Astuti, S.Pd., M.Pd., explained that during a pandemic the exams were carried out individually and alhamdulillah (thank God) that in this activity students were able to show their work.

"We will take this activity as a group for taking the Final Semester Examination scores," she said. (Fika/PR)
