QS WUR Recognized UMS as Leading Private University in Central Java

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a higher education analyst firm, recently released the 2025 World University Rankings (WUR) results. Published in London on Tuesday (4/6/2024), this release features a ranking of over 1,500 universities from 106 countries worldwide.

The assessment criteria in the 21st edition of QS WUR 2025 include academic reputation, citations per faculty, employer reputation, employment outcomes, faculty-student ratio, international faculty, international research network, international students, and sustainability.

According to the QS WUR 2025, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta ranked 20th among 26 universities in Indonesia.

Apart from UMS, there are two other universities in Central Java that are included in QS WUR 2025, namely Diponegoro University and Sebelas Maret University. 

At the international level, UMS is ranked 1401+. This achievement was attained after several stages of evaluation. Initially, QS evaluated 5,663 universities from 106 countries. From those universities, only 1,503 universities passed the evaluation and were included in the ranking of the world's best universities or QS WUR.

UMS currently has a total of 24,619 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) students, including 57 international students. The employment rate for UMS graduates is 67%. Another key indicator is the number of lecturers at UMS, which totals 1,341 lecturers.

Scopus data shows that the number of UMS research publications reached 1,207 during 2018-2022. Additionally, these publications received a total of 38,468 citations from 2018 to 2023. All these achievements make UMS the best private universities in Central Java. 

Head of Office of Public Relations and Rankings, Gunawan Ariyanto, S.T., M.Comp.Sc, Ph.D., expressed his gratitude for the rankings achieved by UMS and the recognition by QS World University Rankings. According to him, despite the intense competition between universities worldwide, UMS has been able to demonstrate its good academic reputation, supported by a world-class international research network.

“The next step is to improve the quality of all indicators, starting from the number and quality of Scopus articles, international cooperation networks, and lecturer achievements at the international level,” said Gunawan on Tuesday (11/6/2024).

He added that UMS committed to improving the quality of graduates so they can make an impact on the wider community and the environment. UMS also encourages its graduates to achieve recognition not only on the national level but also on the international level.

In addition, Gunawan said UMS continues to develop itself as a sustainable educational institution in terms of environment, social, and health.

“UMS efforts are manifested in the establishment of the SDGs Center and all the activities that the institution oversees,” he added.
