58mart UMS Officially Opens, Introducing a Daily Necessities Store with a Concept of Frugal, Warmth, and Blessing

Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) officially launched 58mart as one of the university's business ventures on Monday (17/8/2026). 58mart is a store offering a wide range of everyday supplies and necessities for the public.

58mart UMS is located at Jl. Duwet Raya No. 3, Mendungan, Pabelan, Kartasura District, Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java 57145. Built on a plot of land measuring approximately 400 square meters, 58mart is equipped with a range of facilities, including shopping trolleys and baskets, a coffee corner, restrooms, free parking, and a cool, comfortable interior.

The Head of the UMS Business Development and Investment Agency (BPUI), Prof. Dr. Bambang Sumardjoko, M.Pd., said 58mart is the result of a collaboration between UMS and PT Daya Surya Sejahtera Surya Mart Ponorogo. As part of the preparation process, 10 new employees underwent one month of training and internship in Ponorogo.

The name 58mart is taken from UMS's founding year, 1958. The store carries the tagline "Frugal, Warmth, and Blessing" as the values expected to underpin its service to customers.

"Insyaallah, with this philosophy, slogan, and tagline, the hope is that people who shop here feel comfortable and, well, happy. That the goods are good quality, that they're served well, and that all of this brings blessing. Blessing not just for us, but for the wider community as well," Bambang said.

He stressed that the establishment of 58mart was based on careful calculation and was not done carelessly.

"We've calculated this thoroughly. Insyaallah, what we're doing here will turn out to be profitable," he said.

Meanwhile, UMS Rector Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum. expressed hope that the launch of 58mart marks the first step in developing UMS's land for a range of business ventures. In the near future, the land is expected to be developed further into a bakery and cafeteria business.

Harun said the tagline carried by 58mart also serves as an expression of UMS's gratitude. This aligns with the theme of UMS's Milad (anniversary) celebration this year: "Synergy and Progressive Transformation, Impactful and Sustainably Prophetic."

"And on behalf of the university, I'd like to say to everyone who has helped make this happen: may this building contribute and make an impact. Let's manage it together," Harun said.

Following this, the Chair of the UMS Daily Supervisory Board, Drs. Marpuji Ali, M.Si., said he hopes the economic development that has begun with 58mart will receive positive support from various parties. According to him, this business development also forms part of the effort to strengthen Islamic da'wah, specifically amar ma'ruf nahi munkar (enjoining good and forbidding wrong), while providing benefit through good deeds.

He also said that the proceeds from 58mart's initial operations will be used to help communities affected by disaster, particularly Muhammadiyah members in East Nusa Tenggara and the surrounding areas.

"Hopefully, through this charitable act that Allah loves so dearly, Allah will bless all of us, bless UMS, and bless everyone who helps advance 58mart, all in service of Islamic da'wah, amar ma'ruf nahi munkar," he said hopefully.
