The Faculty of Communication and Informatics at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) organized an event to introduce four flagship programs by the UMS Office of Student Affairs aimed at protecting students from violence and sexual harassment.
The four programs presented on Tuesday (26/11/2024), include the Office of Legal Consultation and Assistance(BKBH), Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Support (SMHWS), Sexual Harassment Prevention & Handling Task Force (PPKS), and the UMS Disciplinary Team (Timdis).
Ahmada Auliya Rahman, S.I.Kom., M.Pd., the event’s head organizer, stated that around 600 new FKI students attended the session titled “Deep Talk”" This initiative was initially held at the university level last year and has now been fully delegated to the faculties. Ahmada expressed hopes that students would become more aware of and comply with the regulations in place at UMS.
“The hope is that, in the future, there will be no violations of the rules set by UMS,” said Ahmada, who also serves as the Vice Dean III of FKI UMS.

Ahmada emphasized that students should not hesitate to report any incidents that disrupt their comfort, so the campus administration can address issues promptly.
In his remarks, the Dean of FKI UMS, Nurgiyatna, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his hope that all participants would thoroughly understand the student affairs programs. This effort is essential to creating a safe and comfortable campus environment where students can develop their potential.
“This way, they can grow into outstanding and high-quality individuals capable of contributing to societal welfare, national development, and even making an impact globally,” Nurgiyatna stated.
The material on the UMS Disciplinary Team (Timdis) was presented by Drs. Suyatmin, M.Si., who discussed the rules that UMS academic members must adhere to.
The following presentation, on the Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Support (SMHWS), was delivered by Dra. Partini, M.Si. She highlighted five aspects of mental health for a fulfilling life: living a meaningful life with awareness of one’s purpose, valuing trust and order in life, accepting a higher dimension beyond oneself, being aware of interconnectedness with others, reflecting, understanding oneself, and being open to change.

The material from the Legal Consultation and Assistance Body (BKBH) was delivered by Avip Rusdi Hananto, S.H., M.H. He explained the guarantee of legal assistance in accordance with legal aid standards and/or the code of ethics for advocates for all members of the UMS academic community. BKBH UMS offers legal assistance services, including litigation support in court and non-litigation support in the form of consultations and mediation.
The final material, presented by Dr. Mahasri Shobahiya, M.Ag., focused on the Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPKS). In her presentation, she explained that violence includes any act, behavior, and/or decision that results in pain, injury, or death, sexual/reproductive suffering, and/or other similar forms of harm.
