As the host of International Student Summit (ISS) 2024, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has prepared various engaging agendas for foreign students, especially those receiving the Developing Countries Partnership (KNB) scholarships. UMS aims to showcase the cultural wealth of Solo, a city renowned for its rich Javanese traditions.
In an interview on Sunday, October 3, 2024, UMS Vice-Rector V for Cooperation & International Affairs, Prof. Supriyono, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., emphasized that ISS provides an opportunity to introduce Indonesia's culture to foreign students studying in the country.

Several activities have been planned, including trying out the traditional stilts game (egrang), learning the art of batik at Batik Laweyan Village, and visiting the scenic Cetho Temple in Karanganyar Regency via jeep tours.
The international students will not be exploring Solo's cultural charm alone, each university delegate and a student buddy from UMS will accompany them on their journey.
Beside the cultural trips, there are various exciting competitions, such as Indonesian song contests, promotional video contests, traditional dance competitions, traditional game contests, and a fashion show that allows students to display their home country's culture. “The fashion show aims to highlight the cultures of each participating country,” Supriyono explained.
It was previously known that ISS is an event organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). ISS is dedicated to foreign students studying in Indonesia under the KNB scholarship program.
This year, UMS has been chosen by Kemendikbudristek to host ISS 2024. The summit carries the theme “Javanese Rhapsody: Weaving Culture, Creativity, and Solidarity,” which merges tradition and innovation in harmony with Javanese culture. According to the UMS Office of Collaboration and International Affairs, ISS 2024 will be attended by 178 students from 31 universities across Indonesia.
