Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), together with the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board, officially inaugurated the operation of UMS A.R. Fachruddin Hospital as a strategic charitable enterprise in the healthcare sector. This inauguration signifies UMS’s commitment to delivering healthcare services that are professional, Islamic, patient-safety-oriented, and family-friendly.

The Daily Supervisory Board (BPH) of UMS Hospital, Prof. Harun, S.H., M.Hum., stated that the hospital is a UMS-owned charitable enterprise focused on healthcare services, education, research, and community service based on Islamic values. He emphasized that the establishment of this hospital is intended as a means of worship to Allah SWT.

“UMS A.R. Fachruddin Hospital is designed to provide professional, comprehensive, high-quality, equitable, and family-friendly healthcare services, while also serving as a center for education, research, and progressive community service,” said Harun on Saturday (13/12/2025) at the courtyard of UMS A.R. Fachruddin Hospital.

Harun also revealed that UMS A.R. Fachruddin Hospital has been officially declared eligible to operate following the issuance of an operational permit by the Mayor of Surakarta. Therefore, the Daily Supervisory Board (BPH) expressed its gratitude to all parties who supported the hospital’s establishment and licensing process.

The Director of UMS Hospital, Prof. dr. Dr. Em Sutrisna, M.Kes., also delivered his report. “Today is the day we have been waiting for. At last, this hospital can be launched, and today marks the first day of its grand opening. In the initial phase, our hospital has 60 beds with 14–16 polyclinic services, and it will continue to develop. More than 30 specialist doctors and consultants have joined, strengthening our hospital services,” he explained.

Em emphasized that the hospital supports the Faculty of Medicine of UMS (FK UMS) and carries the tagline “Compassion, Accuracy, Responsibility, Empathy” (CARE).

“In other words, we strive wholeheartedly and sincerely to care for patients, provide accurate diagnoses and treatments, and ensure that patients return home healthy and happy. This hospital also supports the Mayor of Surakarta’s program to develop Solo as a Health Tourism City,” he clarified.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the establishment of UMS A.R. Fachruddin Hospital as part of Muhammadiyah’s long-standing tradition in healthcare services. He expressed his hope that the hospital would be able to deliver services in line with the CARE tagline.

“Muhammadiyah hospitals, since their inception, have been founded on the spirit of Al-Ma’un, namely service based on compassion. This is not merely medical service, but humanitarian service that must be felt by patients and their families,” Haedar emphasized.

He stressed the importance of a humanistic approach by healthcare workers in serving patients. According to him, sincere greetings, empathy, and good communication are essential parts of the healing process, especially as patients and their families are in psychologically vulnerable conditions.

Haedar also highlighted the current challenges faced by hospitals, ranging from the growing legal awareness of the public to the need for public health education. He viewed hospitals not only as places for treatment, but also as centers of education to foster a culture of healthy living within the community.
