Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held the Socialization of the BRIN Strategic Research Program 2026–2030 by presenting the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, S.P., M.Si., at the 7th Floor Seminar Room of the Siti Walidah Main Building, Sunday (1/3/2026).

This activity became a momentum to strengthen research synergy between UMS and BRIN, while also encouraging the improvement of the quality and quantity of research based on the national roadmap.

UMS Rector Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., in his remarks expressed appreciation for the presence of the Head of BRIN as well as the leaders of PTMA who attended the forum, including the Rector of UMPKU and the collaborative research team, the Rector of UMMAT and the collaborative research team, the Rector of UMUKA and the collaborative research team, the Rector of UNISA Solo and the team, as well as the Rector of UMKLA and the collaborative research team.

He invited all participants to be grateful for the scientific meeting as part of “Tadarus Riset,” a term that describes the collective spirit of building a sustainable research culture.

“This meeting is a continuation of our audience with Diktilitbang PP Muhammadiyah at the BRIN office on 5 January, discussing the importance of synergy between BRIN and PTMA in Indonesia,” he said.

The UMS Rector explained that since its establishment, UMS has prioritized research development. In 1995, UMS became one of the private universities that successfully obtained APBN research funding through the beginner lecturer research scheme.

Not only that, UMS is also recorded as a private university that successfully obtained APBN scholarship allocations. Most recently, UMS became the driving force of the progressive RISPRO-LPDP program with Rp10 billion in funding and this year will receive an additional Rp10 billion, bringing the total funding to Rp20 billion.

“In the program, UMS won six research titles. So indeed, the research meritocracy at UMS is already running. From BRIN itself, UMS currently has five titles. We hope that next year it can increase up to double,” he emphasized.

He also encouraged the establishment of leading research focused on reducing imports and strengthening national basic needs such as food, energy, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Vice Rector V for Research, Innovation, Reputation, and Partnership of UMS, Prof. Ir. Supriyono, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., explained that UMS manages research based on the Technology Readiness Level (TKT).

UMS has three research management clusters, namely TKT 1–3 (basic research), TKT 4–6 (development), and TKT 7–9 (downstreaming and commercialization).

He mentioned that a number of UMS products have reached TKT 7–9 and are market-based, such as pharmaceutical and health products, as well as a communication application for umrah bureaus that has been used by several institutions and generated university revenue.

“Currently there are around 30 research projects at the TKT 4–6 level, and 10 of them are already approaching the downstreaming stage. We will strengthen incubation and collaboration so that more research products create impact,” he explained.

In his presentation, the Head of BRIN RI, Arif Satria, emphasized the importance of the national research roadmap as a reference for lecturers and students in preparing undergraduate theses, master’s theses, and dissertations.

“Research must have an impact. It must provide answers to the problems of society and industry. Because national progress is determined by innovation and the number of researchers involved,” he stated.

He also expressed appreciation for UMS’s steps in building its identity as a progressive private-based research university.

“I am proud of UMS’s commitment to building a research ecosystem. May it become more advanced, more successful, and produce more works that are downstreamed,” he said.
