Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held its 67th Anniversary Celebration at the Edutorium KH. Ahmad Dahlan UMS, Friday (24/10/2025). The event was attended by the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Board (PP Muhammadiyah), Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si.; Deputy Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Fajar Riza Ul Haq; and Head of LLDIKTI Region VI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Aisyah Endah Palupi, M.Pd., along with invited guests and the UMS academic community.
In his remarks, Haedar Nashir expressed his appreciation for UMS remarkable progress. He stated that the university’s development in academics, research, community service, and financial governance is the result of collective work rooted in sincerity and the spirit of dakwah.
“UMS’ advancement is the fruit of sincere work and the values of dakwah instilled by the founders and all Muhammadiyah members. We move forward not for material or power-oriented motives, but driven by faith and devotion,” said Haedar.
Haedar also emphasized the importance of gratitude for the achievements attained. According to him, UMS progress is inseparable from the contribution of many parties, both directly and indirectly.
“We do not live alone. The progress of Muhammadiyah and UMS happens because of collaboration. So do not be stingy in expressing gratitude. The Prophet also taught us la yasykurullah man la yasykurunnas, that whoever does not thank other people, then he does not thank Allah,” he added

UMS Public Relations/Imam Safii In addition, the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah also reminded the UMS community to never stop engaging in muhasabah and to stay ready in facing challenges.
“Managing a university as large as UMS is certainly not easy. There will always be problems. But a mature society is one that is able to solve issues without creating commotion. Let us continue learning to face challenges with rationality and a spirit of improvement,” he emphasized.
Closing his remarks, Haedar invited the entire UMS civitas academica to continue instilling the values of Islam Berkemajuan as a driving force for change.
The Rector of UMS, Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., in his report presented the strategic achievements of UMS at its 67th year, carrying the theme “Transformasi Progresif Berkelanjutan Memberi Arah Perubahan”.
He explained that UMS continues to strengthen its position as an Islamic University Leader through 9 instruments, 19 targets, and 63 main KPIs covering academic transformation, resources, AIK values, and university digitalization.
The number of active UMS students currently reaches 34,817 students, coming from 38 provinces across Indonesia. In terms of achievements, UMS successfully earned 95 international academic awards, 60 international non-academic awards, as well as 381 national achievements over the past year.
UMS also continues to take an active role in humanitarian programs and internationalization, including through the International Partnership Community Service (KKN) in Malaysia and Thailand, the establishment of the Indonesian Language Study Program at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, and becoming a mentoring and supporting university for 1,593 Muhammadiyah Social Enterprise (AUM) throughout Indonesia.
“The transformation we are pursuing is not merely about developing infrastructure, but also strengthening the spirit of Islamic values and benefits for the ummah, the nation, and global humanity,” Harun stated.
On this occasion, Harun also asked for the blessing of the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah to commence the groundbreaking ceremony for the Faculty of Engineering Building and Pondok Shabran. He also inaugurated two UMS Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) that are connected to 105 SPPG MBGM Phase II of the Free Nutritious Meal Program.
In the near future, UMS will inaugurate three new buildings: UMS Hospital AR Fachrudin, the new Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) building, and the Multi-Purpose Building 1958 at the Faculty of Dentistry complex.
Meanwhile, the Head of LLDIKTI Region VI Central Java, Prof. Dr. Ir. Aisyah Endah Palupi, M.Pd., congratulated UMS on its milestone and emphasized that UMS has become one of the top universities in Central Java.
“UMS has held the “Unggul” (Excellent) status since 2021 with 56 study programs accredited Unggul. This is an extraordinary achievement that must be maintained,” said Aisyah.
She also highlighted the increasing number of outstanding lecturers at UMS, which now has 50 professors, 157 associate professors and 314 assistant professors. In addition, she appreciated UMS initiative in establishing Pondok Hajjah Nuriyah Shabran, accompanied by full scholarships for the students who reside there.
The Vice Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen) who is also a UMS alumnus, Dr. Fajar Riza Ul Haq, shared his hopes that UMS will continue to be the pride of the organization and the nation.
“As an alumnus, I congratulate UMS on its 67th anniversary. May UMS continue to grow, excel, and maintain a strong reputation. This is a momentum to advance even further as hoped by the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah,” he said.
