Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held the first batch of the 2024 Munadhoroh Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) program at the K.H. Mas Mansur Mosque, Campus 4 of the Faculty of Medicine UMS, on Friday (15/3).
The event was a collaboration between the Human Resource Development Bureau (BPSDM) and the Institute for the Development of Islamic Boarding Schools, Al-Islam, and Kemuhammadiyahan (LPPIK) UMS, and was attended by 180 UMS lecturers and education staff, with the theme of Aqidah (Islamic creed).
Head of the PPSDM Division of BPSDM UMS, Ir. Tri Widayatno, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., stated that the purpose of this activity is to foster AIK values among UMS lecturers and education staff so that one of UMS visions can be realized and Islamic values can be practiced in everyday life.
“So that an Islamic campus environment at UMS can be realized,” he added.

In each batch, there will be 180 participants, beginning with a presentation by a relevant speaker.
“Today’s topic is Aqidah, delivered by Prof. Dr. dr. EM Sutrisna, M.Kes. There was a discussion and a Q&A session related to the material. After that, we provided a module used for group discussions, where the 180 lecturers and staff were divided into 10 groups to discuss Quranic verses or hadiths related to the topic,” explained Tri.
Within each group, participants discussed the material to extract lessons and applications for daily life. At the end of the session, a representative from each group presented the results of their discussion.
“Then, participants were also asked to formulate a follow-up plan to implement what had been discussed from the allocated material,” he continued.
Tri hopes that participants will take the activity seriously so they can gain maximum benefit from it.
“So that their knowledge may increase and contribute to shaping outstanding and Islamic-minded education staff at UMS,” he concluded.
On the same occasion, UMS Vice Rector for Human Resources and AIK, Prof. Dr. dr. Em Sutrisna, M.Kes., gave a speech and presented a study on Aqidah.
Em explained that munadhoroh is essentially similar to Baitul Arqam, but held in a relatively shorter duration. AIK are not only for students but also include lecturers and staff.
“There have already been quite a number of AIK activities at UMS,” said Em.
These include the Kajian Tarjih every Tuesday, Qiyamul Lail every Thursday night, monthly AIK webinars, and, according to the Rector’s Decree, every academic activity begins with a Al-Qur’an recitation.
In his view, the three-day Baitul Arqam program is not sufficient, as participants only receive it once every four years, which is considered inadequate.
“Therefore, the Munadhoroh Al-Islam dan Kemuhammadiyahan was created as a relatively shorter activity, with the hope that each lecturer and staff member can attend Baitul Arqam two to three times a year,” he concluded.
