Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has once again been recognized in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025.

According to THE Impact Rankings' official website, UMS was acknowledged for its efforts across several SDGs indicators, including: SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Head of the UMS SDGs Center, Rama Rizana, S.T., M.Sc., explained that last year UMS submitted four indicators for assessment: SDGs 1, 3, 4, and 17. This year, UMS added four new indicators to the ranking.

“From last year's evaluation, we identified areas for improvement and looked at which SDGs we could realistically address,” said Rama in a virtual interview on Friday, (20/6/2025).

Overall, UMS ranked 1001–1500 out of 2,526 universities worldwide, with a total score improvement to 49.8–60.8 compared to the previous year.

UMS performed strongly in two SDG indicators: SDG 1 (No Poverty): rose to the 101–200 band, up from 601–800 last year. SDG 4 (Quality Education): improved significantly to 101–200, up from 1001–1500.

“We conducted deeper evaluations of each ranking indicator based on last year’s outcomes,” he added.

This achievement further solidifies UMS steps toward becoming a sustainable campus. Rama noted that UMS will continue to analyze ways to improve all aspects of the institution to support future rankings.

“We aim to add more SDG indicators next year. The hope is that these goals can serve as a guide for the academic community so that all activities have greater societal impact,” he concluded.
