Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) once again demonstrated its dedication to enhancing the quality and governance of education through the implementation of the ISO 21001:2018 Surveillance Audit II, conducted in the Seminar Room of the Siti Walidah Main Building. The event was attended by university leaders, external auditors, and work units that were subject to the audit.

ISO 21001:2018 is an international standard specifically developed for Educational Organizations Management Systems (EOMS).

In his remarks, UMS Rector Prof. Dr. Harun Joko Prayitno, M.Hum., expressed his appreciation for the visiting audit team and emphasized that quality improvement is a long-term institutional commitment. Harun stated that ISO 21001:2018 serves as a fundamental instrument to ensure that educational management standards are implemented effectively and measurably.

“The key to institutional success is quality assurance. ISO is not merely about meeting standards, but a mechanism that ensures the university continues to grow, make an impact, and gain the trust of the public,” said the UMS Rector on Thursday (20/11/2025).

The Rector also stressed the importance of collaboration across all units in pushing for service quality improvements in line with Islamic, enlightening, and sustainable values.

“This ISO 21001:2018 standard must become a real practice in the daily operations of every unit, not just an administrative requirement,” he asserted.

Representing the auditors, Prof. Dr. Budiyono Saputro, M.Pd., stated that ISO 21001 is an international standard for educational organization management systems. The standard, he explained, contains 10 clauses that institutions must comply with.

“The purpose of an audit is not to look for mistakes, but to validate improvements and ensure that follow-up actions from previous findings have been implemented,” Budiyono explained in his address.

He also announced that ISO 21001:2025 will be released this December and invited UMS to participate in the upcoming national seminar on the topic in Yogyakarta.

The auditors emphasized that every unit plays an essential role in ensuring that the educational management system operates consistently and sustainably.

During the event, various faculties, bureaus, and institutional bodies took part in the surveillance audit. With the successful implementation of the Surveillance Audit II on Wednesday (19/11), UMS solidified its strategic steps to continuously enhance the quality of educational services and maintain public trust as an excellent higher education institution with global competitiveness.
