In response to a request from Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) Central Java, the Student Affairs Office of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) swiftly dispatched a team of volunteers to the Cianjur Earthquake Relief Center on Monday, December 12th.

The Head of the Student Affairs Office at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), Ir. Ahmad Kholid Alghofari, S.T., M.T., announced that 11 students will participate in humanitarian efforts to support the Cianjur earthquake relief efforts. These volunteers represent various student organizations (Ormawa), including Hizbul Wathon (HW), Mahasiswa Muslim Pecinta Alam (MALIMPA), Student Regiment (Menwa), and Volunteer Corps (KSR).

“The Student Affairs Office has coordinated with relevant student organizations (Ormawa) to participate in this relief effort, aligning with the request from the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PWM) disaster management agency. These organizations include HW, MALIMPA, Menwa, and KSR,” explained the Student Affairs Office head.

The volunteers will be deployed to the Cianjur Earthquake Relief Center for 14 days to support the logistics team. The Student Affairs Office has provided the volunteers with letters of assignment and has obtained the necessary permissions from their respective study programs. These arrangements ensure that the volunteers will receive dispensation for attendance in learning activities during their deployment.

Mukhlisin Muraslin, a volunteer from the Hizbul Wathon, explained that the team has prepared the necessary equipment from HW to support their two-week deployment at the command post. He emphasized that the volunteers’ participation is purely voluntary, driven by their commitment to serving those in need following the earthquake.

“In preparation for our two-week deployment, we have brought along essential tools from Hizbul Wathon to address the needs at the command post,” explained Mukhlis.

Volunteers from UMS will work with MDMC to coordinate activities at the earthquake relief center. This is not the first team UMS sent to support earthquake relief efforts. Previously, Lazismu UMS and the Faculty of Medicine also distributed funds and sent aid teams (Maysali/Humas).
