Various potential areas of cooperation were discussed during the USTY and UMS meeting held in the Rectorate Meeting Room, Siti Walidah Building, UMS.
Prof. Supriyono, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Vice Rector V for Collaboration and International Affairs at UMS, highlighted several collaborative opportunities, including student and lecturer exchanges, as well as joint research projects. This visit also represents an effort to enhance the internationalization of both institutions, sparking their interest in collaborating with UMS.
“They (USTY) will welcome UMS students and lecturers to study Arabic because they also offer an Arabic language program,” said Supriyono on Friday (11/10/2024).
Supriyono believed the meeting as a promising beginning. He expressed hope that this collaboration could serve as a bridge to expand partnerships with other universities in the region, which holds great potential.
“We are very pleased because UMS has not had a strong partnership with the Middle East until now. Hopefully, this will be the initial bridge to establishing collaborations with several universities in the region,” he continued.
Andy Dwi Bayu Bawono, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the UMS Office of Collaboration and International Affairs (BKUI), explained that USTY visit to UMS reflects UMS position as one of the top Islamic universities. UMS's recognition in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) 2025 further solidified its standing as a leading institution.

“Because of that achievement, they (USTY) seek cooperation with us. So, through this collaboration, we are expanding beyond ASEAN, to Europe, the Middle East, and beyond,” Andy emphasized.
Interestingly, one of the USTY delegation members, Said, also expressed an interest in pursuing his doctoral studies at UMS. According to him, UMS was chosen because it is regarded as one of the best Islamic universities.
“With this step, UMS remains committed to expanding its global cooperation network to improve the quality of education and research within the campus,” Andy concluded.
